Pours a clear amber colored beer with a rather fast disappearing head. Aroma is of a typical English ale, rather sweet malty with tones of bitter hops. Little spices, fruit and toffee in there also. Flavor is also malty and hoppy with spicy notes, not very full, but nice and easy and quite tasty. Some dryness in the end. Drinkable and good, but nothing besides the ordinary. mabel (2626), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Clear, golden amber body with a medium-lasting foamy light yellow head. Grainy skunky floral hops flavour. Medium body is a little bitter. Fair, but Challenger and Goldings have never been my favourite hops.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 17, 2007 Bottle (clear, why??), LCBO. Gushed out of the bottle, pours a deep copper, big orange/white bubbly head. Lots of floating sediment. Aroma - wow, big citrus hops, neat malt character. Taste - very orange citrus up front, lots of malt, long bitter linger - this is very nice! Reminded me of the Burton Empire Ale a little bit, but not as strong. Only complaint is that it is too carbonated - mouthfeel is way too foamy and bubbly. Otherwise, great pint - glad I got one before the light got to it! Bockyhorsey (2561), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 1/5 | 9/20 | Oct 18, 2006 Bottle. Yeasty bread and spice notes in the aroma. Held to light an fire orange body with decent head. Lot of carbination bubbles. Spicey malt blend dominated the flavor with some high conentrated carbination. Had a carbination belch thing going entire beer which isn’t a good thing because usually to much belch and you know what’s next. dwyerpg (2553), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 8, 2005 Doesn’ts smell real good. Suprisingly dry and noticeably hoppy. Unique in its combination of dryness with spicy tingleness, but only average at best. GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 10, 2007 Bottle from the LCBO. Like many who purchased bottles from the recent LCBO release, I had one that exploded all over the damn place when I opened it - but luckily, my second bottle was fine. Pours a decent looking amber colour with a good sized off-white head. Aroma is OK - malt, dried fruit, mild hops, a slight sourness. Same elements come through in the flavour. Body is on the thin side. A pretty unimpressive strong ale, really - not much character to speak of. jgb9348 (2515), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 17, 2003 Dark amber in colour with a very full thick off-white head. Tons of very small bubbles rise from the bottom, just like a good bottle-conditioned ale. A decent smell, english hops and a full maltyness dominate the aroma. Medium bodied with a few flavours going on in the background, but none overpowering. Smokeyness, mustyness and definately malty. Some of the english hops come out in the aftertaste, as well. This one isn't offensive at all, and if anything isn't set in its ways enough. A good beer, but not great. I had this from a 50 cL bottle purchased at SoutTown Beverage in Rochester, New York. Not a lot of hop on the aroma mostly caramel and malt. The flavor is pure caramel somwhat sweet and yeasty. A very drinkable strong le. A great brew to taste. I can’t wait to drink it again.
