3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BeerVirgin72 (878) - Pickerington, Ohio, USA - FEB 1, 2007
Poured from bottle...Nice golden orange color, slight head...I didnt have any eruptions, THANK GOD, but the smell was WAY over powering at first...Very malty and yeasty...LOTS of yeast in the bottle and in the beer...My husband pointed out that I did not decant properly! Hah! Taste was a bit sweet up front, and malty, also bread like, with a bit of a hoppy bitter finish. Decent beer, not exactly what I like...

Had a bottle of this tonight. This brew pours a clear bottle conditioned red-orange. The
average dense and creamy off-white head is fully lasting with good lacing. The moderate
nose is mostly malt and yeast with molasses, cereal, mold and soap. Also present are
spices, fruit (apple), flowers, and perfume. The rich flavor is starts with malt sweetness
and has a long bready malt finish. The exceptional palate is soft, smooth and dry with a
medium body. Solid.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 madquacker (854) - Canberra ACT, AUSTRALIA - MAR 1, 2009
Grippy raisens, some toffee and plums over boiled lollies. Head disappeared quickly. Feel the high ABV.

500ml bottle. Theres a bit of a story behind this beer, because its used by August 1999! Essentially it had been at the back of my girlfriends folks liquor cabinet for years and years, so needless to say, my rating has probably been influenced by that. Pours a murky looking brown body with an offwhite collar. Sharp citrus hops on the nose, dried fruits, some sweet underlying toffee, a musty note is also apparent. Near flat, syrup texture, gritty and somehow dirty mouthfeel. Plenty of dried apricot and sultana on the body, backed up with a touch of toffeeish malt, and the odd bit of dirt that somehow doesn’t seem to out of place. Probably best served fresh!
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 mutant (854) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 24, 2002
Fizzed out of the bottle, highly carbonated. Fruity hop aroma. Strong sweet flavour with long roasty finish. Good but the initial overflow destroyed the experience.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Block (850) - West Lafayette, Indiana, USA - MAR 28, 2009
Dark gold color with an off white head. Super skunky aroma. Yeasty flavor with some caramel and a few roasted malts in there. Some alcohol in the finish. Light to medium body. Pretty drinkable.

Bottle. Pours a deep orangey amber with a creamy off-white head that lasts a little while. Aroma is fairly light and has notes of caramel, brandy, orange, malt and burnt sugar, with hints of spice, tropical fruit and grassy hops. Flavour has noticeable alcohol and is quite fruity with notes of orange, apricot, peach, spice and caramel. Light, oily mouthfeel with reasonably high carbonation and a moderately bitter finish that lingers a bit. A decent English ale overall, but not particularly exciting.

if light exposure wasn’t such a critical factor, it would be a nice asthetic, plus one could make a reasonable judgement about the contents and filtering. for example: corona, (a shit beer even fresh), is packaged clear, and it’s myriad differences with the hen’s tooth are reasonably surmised by the appearance. my bottle of hen’s tooth was fresh and lively, so i’m not going to criticize something which is not a problem. as anyone can see, this is a reddish copper concoction. mine has great lingering head; reasonably clear in spite of being slightly aggitated (who knows what makes them so irritable?). in the aroma the yeast is more apparent, and makes for a more interesting beer than the speckled hen (or bass or whitbread for that matter) delicious dried fruit and oak. subdued whiskey-ish taste, dry, good body, good hop finish.
