It is a reddish copper with a thick off-white head that steadily dissipates to a thin, lasting head. The aroma is malty grain and lemon. The taste, outstanding, being robust yet smooth. It has a solid malt body, a hint of sweetness with a nice hop bite and citrus-floral element to balance it. It is certainly on the hoppier side for typical English ales (and more so than Old Speckled Hen) but this is wonderful here because fo the great debpth of flavor and balance. The finish is long and smooth with a lingering taste of toasted grain. Will kill to have it on tap. dizziius (9), San Diego, California, USA does not count | 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Dec 21, 2002 Unlike some of the posters below, I got a fresh bottle and it tastes quite good. Beautiful copper color, nice head, just the right amount of carbonation, and an overall well-balanced ale. There is a hint of sourness in the aroma, but I found it a pleasant surprise. noelcb (271), Toledo, Ohio, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Dec 29, 2005 Orange brown with a stiff foamy off-white head, which slowly faded leaving loads of sticky lace. After pouring half, the bottle had a matrix of huge bubbles stacked from the top of the remaining liquid to the rim of the bottle neck. Aromas were malt, bread, floral hops, brewed espresso, chocolate and roasted coffee beans. Taste was a big hit of bitter and hops, followed by a growing toasty malt, dark fruit, citrus, grain, yeast, coffee and chocolate, then morphing to a nice intensely bitter yet clean and dry finish. Mouthfeel was spot-on. iamjond (7), England does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 12, 2005 Very enjoyable. Well worth trying. Can become a little tired to flavor after a few pints. I.C.suds (186), Da U.P. eh?, Michigan, USA

More head than you ever got in high school. Old Speckled Hen pales in comparison. One of my favorite beers needs an open mind and some curry to be fully enjoyed.
