jainsv (112), USA Jan 19, 2007 Pours a deep copper/amber color with a bubbly white head. Looks fairly clear. Smells of citrus and lots of herb, and tastes of herbs mostly. It has a bitter herb taste. I’m not a huge fan, but it’s decent.
michael-pollack (1360), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 19, 2008 500ml Bottle: Smells of malt, hops, cream, caramel, and some yeast. Poured orange/amber in color with a large, creamy, off-white head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is light to medium bitter. Tastes of malts, caramel, hops, and grass. Light to medium body. Sticky, chalky texture. Average carbonation. Creamy, light caramel and hops finish is dry. rayOfBeer (219), El Cerrito, California, USA Aug 15, 2008 Poured from clear pint bottle a glowing orange with a large off-white head that laced as it quickly faded. Nose is mostly malt with a little sweetness, a bit of sour, and something that was lager-like. The flavor started malty with a honey sweetness and a good carbonation tang, followed by bisquit, yeast, and a lightly tart/bitter ending. Palate is lightly sweet with a powdery mild bitter at the end with a little alcohol vapor. Overall nice pub sipping beer, easy to drink. Flavor was somewhat lacking, but I’d have another. BigBen2120 (553), Gardiner(52 miles from Allagash), Maine, USA Aug 14, 2008 500ml clear bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a rich copper-amber body with a good inch of off-white head. smells of caramel mostly, with fruit and just a tinge of skunk. Tastes caramelly, biscuity, fruity... That caramel-malt character sticks around in the aftertaste, making me crave more. Unfortunately it’s got just a hint of skunk in the aftertaste too. On the lighter side of medium-bodied with ample carbonation. Pretty drinkable and refreshing. If it didn’t have a little of that ’long voyage overseas’ flavor to it, it’d be better. I bet it’s phenomenal fresh, especially on tap. Kalli (404), Falun, Sweden Aug 4, 2008 [From the archive]
Citrusy, dusty aroma. Not what I expected (at that time) from an English brew.
Reminiscent of some Belgian strong ales mixed with bitter. Yeast seems to overpower even the strong caramalts. Bit of a let down. alexsdad06 (618), Ohio, USA Aug 1, 2008 Bottled. Pours a clear copper color with a med/large rolling off white head. The aroma is heavy on the malt side, alcohol, and various fruits. The flavor has moderate sweetness from the fruit and malt. The finish finds some bitterness and alcohol as the dominant flavors. Medium bodied. Decent, but I won’t revisit this one.
