Malty, earthy woody. Medium body. Typical strong English ale. Not bad, but nothing special.

0.5 bottle. Dark amber color with a reddish hue, completely clear with a creamy, off-white head on top. Looks pretty well but lacks proper lacing. Typical bitters aroma with dough, some alcoholic scents and an unusual touch of oak and vanilla. Taste is somewhat spicy, mix of malts and hops, a tad of dough and vanilla accompanied by some hoppy bitterness. It is somewhat dry but not to a fault. Medium body, smooth texture and a carbonation heavier than expected. Finish has more character and strength than the rest which is already rather robust. Overall the beer is a good example of its kind, similar to the Old Speckled Hen but not exactly as easily drinkable.

Pours a rich amber. Nose of some vanilla. Taste of some raisin, vanilla and malt. Maybe a little on the boring side, but good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft from draught 55. Brownish pour. Malty. Pretty decent and toffeesh exemplar of style.

500ml bottle. Clear amber colour with average, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Fruity aroma has notes of green apple, raisin, a touch of oak. Taste is dry and minimally tart, hints of oak, vanilla, green apple and apple parings, a touch of raisin. Body is slightly too light to withstand the dry, minimally astringent oak notes.

Bottle from the Hen House mixed quad purchased at Aficionado’s. Clear amber in color with a medium beige head. Aroma of malt and corn with caramel and soft fruit notes. Malt and honey flavor with caramel and soft fruit before an earthy hop finish.

Excellent English ale. Nicely balanced, and the extra alcohol gives it more character than their Speckled Hen.

A dark brown color with little head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, and raisin. Flavor is malty with more caramel, toffee, toasty notes. Aftertaste is dry. Overall I don’t know what it is but I dig these hens.

UPDATED: MAY 20, 2013 veerrryy nice ale with golden raisin a bit of sweet vanilla and a touch of almond. malt brew with good soft smoothness and a nice appearance of amber with small brown yet substantial head that seems sugary. nice surprise, and a lingering finish with some bitterness.
