Sickly sweet, deep amber ale with a fine white head. Heavy & thick with dark fruit overtones, molasses, prunes & dates. Well balanced hop bite with toffee & vanilla, phenolic, a bit cloying but drinkable, slowly.

Aroma weak, fruity-sweet, a bit herbal. Foam very weak and short. Nice dark cooper red color. Taste strong, oak and sweet. Alcohol not well masked tho. Leaves a pleasant herbal feeling. Little bit to much carbonation. Pretty good beer

Deep reddish brown beer with a thin off white head that disappears quickly. Redolent nose of raisins, stewed prunes, and salted caramel. Flavor is rich with dark candied fruit, toffee, and burnt sugar punctuated by a bracing bitterness that counterbalances all the sweetness. Medium-bodied with more carbonation than I expected, this is a savory ale to linger over. Definitely worth your time.

500ml bottle, looked nice, med brown with a good head. Strong aroma, malt, hops & fruit. Very strong, rich tasting ale, fruit and malt but rather sweet. Not to my taste I’m afraid,

50cl bottle poured into a tall glass on 15/06/2015. Clear copper colour. Medium tan coloured head which dissipates. Slightly fruity aroma - dark fruits - plum, berries, prunes. Medium carbonation; medium body. Flavours of oak, caramel, malt, molasses, vanilla and hops. A typical English strong ale, although a little too sweet for me.

Aroma: delicately earthy, rich sweet caramel, fruity, cake fruits. Off white, dense, persistent, one-figure head. Deep amber. Nice lacing. Brite, busy and persistent bubbles. A very attractive beer! Flavour malt-dominant: caramel, raisin-type fruity, slight acidity, delicate lingering bitterness. Medium-bodied. Nice tingling carbonation. Cohesive. Mouthwatering. A very enjoyable drink.

Great vintage ale with fruit flavors, nice ambar color and fruit aroma. I prefer vintage ales that are less sweet, nevertheless this is a fine one, great for deserts. Great bang for a buck.

I can absolutely live with without Old Speckled Hen, especially the cask version. This pumped up version is a different matter altogether. Red brown with minimal head, medium body and a pleasant malty aroma. Taste blends the powerful malts with earthy hops. Good brew!

500ml bottle from the Co-op, Amble. Pours clear copper, short-lived white head. Aromas of butterscotch, vanilla, raisins. Like Old Speckled Hen crossed with Innis & Gunn. Taste is sweet, faint hints of oak if you search for it. Mostly demerara sugar. Cloying.

Lovely aroma. Raisin flavour. Amber appearance. Great strength and aftertaste. Nice level of bitterness.
