At just on cool and into a Speckled Hen glass. Points for being an attractive number. Fiery copper and bright. Almost still bar a few tight bubbles. Head is a creamy wafer of white that just holds for the length. Very English is the nose. Peated, chewy toffee malts; bready and toasted with a subtle praline nuttiness and hint of floral, earthy hops. Sweet at this temperature, and even sweeter as it warms. Quite nutty, distinctly Speckled Hen in character. Quite thin but relatively rounded with a spritzy finish and soft finish. Soapy, slick in the swallow. A touch woody, earthy, and floral. Hops are subdued. A touch too much burnt toast and rubber builds late into drinking. This is just Ok. I wasn’t expecting much and it certainly delivered. (50cL, BBE 03/15, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Nutty English malts prevail with a light toffee sweetness and a jigger of raisin liqueur. Appearance: Rich, amber/coppery color with pleasant natural carbonation; firm tan head settles into a mostly present, bubbly skin. Flavor: Nutty up front with a surprising oak touch entirely missing from the nose (my nose, at least); sweetish toffee and raisin finish things out. Palate: Medium body, slightly creamy texture, average carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: Liked this more than I thought I might (didn’t expect much from the clear glass bottle, and wasn’t a big fan of Old Speckled Hen). A lovely complement to my Labor Day brunch.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught @ Kaisla, Helsinki. Pours a dark amber colour with a small white head. Aroma of sweet English toffee, grains, some herbal notes and bread. Sweet flavour of bready malts, toffee, grassy bitterness, honey and some herbs. Medium bodied and a bit creamy mouthfeel. Malty and sweet, yet drinkability is good. Skip breakfast and have this, it’s the same.

4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
I had this bottle for two years stored at room temperature in a non-air-conditioned lower-level room in a box. I had hope that was enough but it is a clear glass bottle and the aroma is definitely Skunky which is the dominant factor. Thankfully the skunk didn't come through in the flavor at all which had Malt, toffee hop and a hint of roast plus some carbonic tang. Body is good and it's very drinkable beer.
