Poured from a bottle that is almost a year out of date. Dark copper with a small light-brown head. Aroma is caramel, nuts, alcohol. Flavour is the same followed by a bitter aftertaste. This is a good beer.

Aroma: Nutty English malts prevail with a light toffee sweetness and a jigger of raisin liqueur. Appearance: Rich, amber/coppery color with pleasant natural carbonation; firm tan head settles into a mostly present, bubbly skin. Flavor: Nutty up front with a surprising oak touch entirely missing from the nose (my nose, at least); sweetish toffee and raisin finish things out. Palate: Medium body, slightly creamy texture, average carbonation, lingering finish. Overall: Liked this more than I thought I might (didnít expect much from the clear glass bottle, and wasnít a big fan of Old Speckled Hen). A lovely complement to my Labor Day brunch.

Skunk to begin but thankfully after that a decent maltiness, relatively grainy, with some fruit kicks in. The flavor is malty with caramel and a strong nuttiness. Going with an ale in a clear bottle, was not expecting a great ale but was surprised, not the absolute best still pretty good, still needs to be in a brown bottle though.

Bottle from mainbrew.com Gorgeous crystal clear amber color and frothy white head. Classic brittish Diacetyl nose with some malt, hops, and a touch of skunkiness (clear bottle) On the palate I get botterscotch, toast, spicy hops and wood. Rich malty body, but not overly so. A touch of skunkiness (clear bottle). A good mix of old specled hen and old suffolk! A great beer overall and would buy again, good value! Breweries, please do not put your beer in clear or green bottles!

Pint bottle from Woodmanís. Deep ruby red color with a small, firm beige head. Aroma is creamy, roasted malt with a spicy sweet note. Flavor is roasted malt and medicinal hops. A hint of semi-sweet chocolate sweetens it up at the end. Crisp, long lasting bitter finish but still smooth on the palate. A definite winner.
