Aroma: Malt: Medium, toffee, Hops: Medium, fresh cut vines, passion fruit, naartjie, vanilla. No DMS. No Diecetyl. Appearance: Gold, light copper, clear body. Small off-white head. Good retention. Flavour: Malt: Medium-light bread. Hops: fruity. Medium to Medium-high vanilla, oak on initial taste. Casked, wooden, Dry finish. Almost whisky like flavours. Honey. Medium sweetness, medium bitterness. Balance towards malt in taste, but a bitter aftertaste. Mouthfeel: Medium body, Medium carbonation. Dry finish. Overall: Quite a surprise. Very complex malt flavours. It tastes like a wood aged bitter. Exquisite. 500ml bottle, poured. Thanks Andre! 8A. Standard/Ordinary Bitter

500ml can from Carrefour, Xintiandi, Changchun. Pours golden with a thin white head. Great hoppy aroma, I’ve been missing decent beer. Long bitter finish. A decent beer, one of GK’s better efforts.

Bottle. Deep gold with a momentary, white, head. Sweet malts, a hint of toast, stone fruits, a touch of soap, lime and a gentle finish. Would probably be better in a brown bottle, but I have had far worse from GK.

Pours a golden amber that is crystal clear with a foamy white head. Aroma of sourdough bread and honey. Taste is sweeter than old speckled hen, with a little bit of dryness at the finish. Very similar with a little more tartness. Still good.

Old Golden Hen has a thick, white head, a hazy, amber (golden, under direct sunlight) appearance, some streaming bubbles, and thin lacing on the glass. The aroma is slightly skunky (clear bottle), somewhat sweet, white bread crust, and mild, mellow hop resin. Taste is of white bread crust, sugar crystals, mild, somewhat moldy, hop bitterness, and tap water. Mouthfeel is light and watery, and Old Golden Hen finishes dry, easy drinking, and somewhat dull. RJT

Holy ester explosion. On draft at the bar. Full of light fruitiness with a touch of honey and very light toffee. The flavor is nothing short of a bag of skittles. A light diacetyl mouthfeel but king if just rounds it out and prevents any watery mouthfeel. Not really buttery. Reminds me of honey graham crackers with cream cheese. Really good. Would crush.

Pours golden with a foamy white head that fades away to a ring. Aroma of tropical fruit, hops and malt. Taste of hops, bitterness and fruit. Excessively sweet.
