Crafted by the master brewer of Old Speckled Hen, this hoppy pale ale is bursting with flavour and aroma. It is brewed with the finest pale and crystal malts as well as the American Chinook hop to give a fresh grapefruit hop character. The addition of rye malt adds a touch of spiciness. Old Hoppy Hen is perfect for all occasions and best enjoyed chilled with friends.

500ml Bottle. It pours a dark golden body topped with what is at first quite a dense head but it soon goes leaving thin lacing. Its aroma is not exactly "bursting" but there is malts and a hint of grapefruit. Its taste is full of malts and the hop inspired grapefruit but theres is also a spiciness and subtle hints of dark chocolate ending in a dry bitter finish. One of Greene Kings better beers but not a top 10 beer.

0.5 l bottle from local supermarket. Colour is light amber. Taste has bitterness from the rye and the usual English maltiness from the rest. Hops add some bitterness if this is slightly cool and some American hoppy flavours when this is cold. Very nice, but English bitters are just not my style. Or, maybe, I should go England and try this from the cask.

500ml bottle from local shop. Clear amber colour, white foam head and malty, fruity, metallic aroma. Taste is malt, grain, fruity with earthy mineral bitterness. Light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, dry twiggy earthy bitter finish. OK.

UPDATED: JUN 8, 2015 0.5l bottle from ASDA. Copper colour and small head. Aroma of oranges and biscuits. Very weird metallic aftertaste that kind of spoils it all.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear yellow with think white head. aroma is soapy, metallic and a little hoppy. Taste is quite sweet, citrus and weak hops. Odd for a bitter.

Bottle. Pours a clear pale amber colour with a fizzy but none lasting white head. Aroma of barley, orange, soapy lemon and some tea. Taste of orange, grapefruit, fruity malt, boiled barley sweets and herbal hops. Light bodied, soft carbonation but an oily texture. A soft herbal bitterness in the finish. A very average bitter with a artificial hop taste.

500ml bottle BB Nov 2015. Amber orange, clear, sparkling, big foamy white head, some light lacing. Aroma is rubbery, dry hops, light mango and apple skin. Body is medium, foamy, low carbonation. Taste is rounded traditional bitter hops, peppery spice, burnt toffee, also has a thin fruit salad vibe, medium bitterness. It’s alright, just a bit of a confused flavour.
