COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Crafted by the master brewer of Old Speckled Hen, this hoppy pale ale is bursting with flavour and aroma. It is brewed with the finest pale and crystal malts as well as the American Chinook hop to give a fresh grapefruit hop character. The addition of rye malt adds a touch of spiciness. Old Hoppy Hen is perfect for all occasions and best enjoyed chilled with friends.

500ml Bottle. It pours a dark golden body topped with what is at first quite a dense head but it soon goes leaving thin lacing. Its aroma is not exactly "bursting" but there is malts and a hint of grapefruit. Its taste is full of malts and the hop inspired grapefruit but theres is also a spiciness and subtle hints of dark chocolate ending in a dry bitter finish. One of Greene Kings better beers but not a top 10 beer.

Flaske 0.5L fra Kilpis. Fare dyp gylden med hvitt skum. Lukt humle, sitrus. Smak humle, sitrus, vanilje. Moderat bitterhet, fint balansert, helt grei pale ale.

500 ml bottle, bought in London, shared at local tasting. ABV is 4.2%. Deep golden colour, white head. Pleasant aroma of toffee, vanilla and caramel, only a hint of herbal hops. "Typically British" flavour with toffee notes, the hops are distinct only in the bitter aftertaste.

Bottle. Light amber, small to average and mostly diminishing head. Moderate malty and sweetish aroma, light - some caramel and some floral fruitiness, light hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish flavor, some caramel and light toffee, some floral fruitiness and faint hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, light - some caramel and some floral fruitiness, light hoppyness. Caramel sweetish bitter with floral fruitiness - not for me.

Appearance: clear pale amber with a short loose foamy white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, patchy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: floral, grapefruit, caramel, grassy. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter, very light spice. (6/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter and slightly spicy finish. (3/5) Starts off fairly hoppy for an English Bitter, with floral and citrusy aromas leading the way. The dry hopping settles down fairly rapidly, with a light sweet caramel and lingering grassy bitter remaining. Easy drinking. (12/20)
