Cask version was first brewed in 1979 by Morland Brewery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon. The name comes from the MG factory’s works car - the gold speckled MG Featherweight Fabric Saloon, affectionately known as the Ol’ Speckl’d ’Un.
Brewed since 1999 by Greene King following the take-over of Morlands
Bottled Old Speckled Hen has been sterile filtered in the "Old Speckled Hen Hall" bottling facility since May 2006.

Bottle. Estery-fruity aroma reminiscent of red apples on top of a caramelly and biscuity malty base. Marginal notes of toffee and earth. Light sticky mouthfeel finishing with a dry, grassy bitterness. Ok.

355ml bottle from Lidl. The appearance is not perfect, head dissipates very quickly, but the taste was very satisfying - Old Speckled Hen is what I expect from an ale. Malty taste, a little sweet, not too bitter, not sour at all.

Piwo butelkowe.

Nitro tap at The Coopers Tavern. Clear amber with off white creamy head. Light aroma of caramel and herbal hops. Taste is mild with some vegetal hops and some malty sweetness. Toasty and improved as it warms. Slightly dry and bitter finish. Light body. Very drinkable, hard to compare it to the American style brews I’m used to, a quiet and reserved beer to be sure. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours dark amber with small off-white head. Aroma is very weak - caramel and fruit mostly. Taste is also very weak. Watery mouthfeel. Low carbonation. Bland and boring.

Butelka 0.35; Barwa ciemnego bursztynu. Piana biała szybko opada do obrączki. Przyjemny słodki aromat słodowy, karmelowy, toffi, biszkoptowy, orzechów, ziół i kwiatów z chmielu. Smak słodowy, karmelowy, ziołowy. Goryczka raczej niska.

Clear, amber colour with frothy and long lasting, white head. Aroma of malt, grain and caramel. Taste is caramel with hints of alcohol. Medium bitterness, full body beer. Carbonation is soft to medium. Decent english ale.

It’s pretty much a typical bland unremarkable bitter on nitro. Taste is a little sweet caramel, slight bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel. Can drink, would probably never leap for.

Aroma: herbs, flowers and malts. Appearance: clear amber color, poor white head. Taste: medium bitterness (herbs and something like iron), there is some malty backbone, but still this beer is quite watery and dry, roasted caramel, herbs. Palate: low body and medium carbonation, astringent finish. Overall: Not very interesting beer. There is a problem with this iron aftertaste, which destroys a mouthfeel.
