Cask version was first brewed in 1979 by Morland Brewery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon. The name comes from the MG factory’s works car - the gold speckled MG Featherweight Fabric Saloon, affectionately known as the Ol’ Speckl’d ’Un.

50 cL can. Pours light brown/amber with a lacing off-white head. Caramel malty aroma with a minor roasted note. Medium bodied. Malty flavour, well balanced with the bitterness. Caramel, slight sweet and with slight special hops twist. Nice, but not my favourite style.

An amber beer with a small head, it has a slightly fruity aroma. The flavor is a little flat with a very soft bitterness and sweetness from a good malt blend. It’s an OK beer, but nothing special.

Bottled. Ruby red colour with small white head. Hoppy nose. Fruitish hoppy sting at first, afterward the flavour turns sweeter. Caramellish hoppy aftertaste (bittersweet one). Refreshing.

Warning! Early amateur rating! Slighty fruity start. Mellows in to a noticeably creamy middle. Finishes with a lingering pronounced bitteness. Lacks cohesion.

Keg, hand pumped
Light amber color, creamy head. Light malt aroma. Smooth, light malt and more caramel, with a quite nice hop balance at the end and a pleasant finish. Quite good...

Amber color with almost white slightly creamy head, has a complex (to my vocabulary) english yeast taste that grows on you. Can almost be tart but has some toffee overtones. Making for an interesting and refreshing beer albeit slightly dry.

Bottled. Amber beer with an off-white head. Caramel-malty aroma. Caramel-dominated flavor too, with an ok bitterness in the finish. It was too cold in the beginning, but when it warmed up a littled bit, the beer opened up quite a lot. Before that, it was a 2.5 for me. Max. Would like a little more bitterness though.(051231)
