Quite nice if rather sweet, malty, dark brown classic English strong best bitter. Not bags of aroma.

Bottle, on this occasion brought round by Mr Goodall. Amber brown colour. Quite a malty bitter with some English hop character. A little sweet. I used to really like this, dunno if GK hit the recipe at all? It was fine, a pleasant bitter, but I’ve been in a mood to enjoy more the old school bitters and less of the overly hopped amateur stuff of late, amd this still didn’t really hit the spot.

Drank as a draught. The beer is quite still and has a slightly sweet taste. Not bad but a bit boring.

50ml bottle. Quite a strong herbal floral aroma on opening, some menthol-like aroma, later red apple skins and some sweetness. Classic inviting English ale aroma. Looks handsome too, lovely amber, brite as. Head diminishes to a few mm but persistent. Flavour is much more about malts--light caramel, cherryish, fruity. Dry and and tangy in the mouth. Very drinkable.

Rated based on notes taken 15 Jul 2011 -- I have been intrigued by this beer for so long and could never get myself to buy it. I’m glad I finally did, good beer.

Bottle from Tesco Windy Nook. Pours ruby, no head. Fruit, caramel, faint bread flavours. An enjoyable easy drinker

Fruits, caramel, bread, grass and some grains in the aroma. Amber with a off-white head. Medium sweet and medium bitter. Full body with a average carbonation. Overall a really nice ESB, lots of malt sweetness, but with a bitterness that balances the flavour great.

Can on train. Pours clear, amber. Small tan head is just a ring around my glass. Malty, sweet nose. Rather flat mouthfeel. Light body. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 11/30/2013. Pours crystal clear reddish copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, toast, brown bread, plum, apple, honey, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, yeast ester, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, toast, brown bread, plum, apple, nuttiness, light roast, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toast, brown bread, nuttiness, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean in flavor as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and fairly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with no warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a very nice English pale ale! All around good balance and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle to English pint. Pours deep amber, quick head, scant lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, herbs and ripe plums. Taste is rather sweet with some earthy bitterness. Light body, lively carbonation, mouth feel is a little sticky. Finishes sweet with earthy bitterness at the end. It’s OK but could be more bitter for my taste.
