DRAFT HAND PUMP: Creamy white nitro head, clear orange body, flat low-carbonation body, caramel butterscotch flavor, mild ester fruitiness, evenly dispersed hop bitters, balanced, a bit thin due to the low carbonation and thin malt body, could use a little more hop edge and dryness to make this a thirst quencher

Iím ill at the moment so that somewhat took away from this. Pours pale amber/copper with a thin white head. Aroma of some fruitiness and malt, bit of alcohol. Taste of malt and citrus with a hint of spice and a nice bitterness. Slightly sweet finish. It was nice.

355ml brown 2014 years vintage bottle, label reads "imported" rated 5% ABV, poured into a pint glass. Appearance is clear dark amber with a small beige head that reduced fast, leaving a little lacing. Aroma of caramel, syrup loaf and a hint of dried apricots. Taste of caramel, bread, maple syrup and toffee. Taste is light-medium sweet and medium bitter. Palate is medium-light bodied, slightly oily texture and average carbonation. A good ESB that I have had a couple of times before from a 500ml clear bottle. Reviewed and tasted now for the first time from a 355ml brown bottle, itís better than I remembered. Makes me if Iím imagining it, or of the recipe changed or itís just because of the brown bottle. Oddly the smaller bottle also costs more here.

Old Speckled Hen was served at my book club meeting last night. We all raved about itís body of flavor and terrific aftertaste, something beer can be notoriously bad at. I left that meeting wanting more and then decided to stop on my way home to pick some up at the liquor store. My wife tasted one...and then another...and by the end of the evening, my six pack was gone. Great stuff, highly recommended.

14.9 oz nitro-can into a pint glass.
A: Well, itís a nitro-can beer, ergo it looks stunning. It pours a mostly clear copper color, capped off by a stunning one-finger white head. Retention is unbelievably good - it hasnít even faded a millimeter since I poured it a minute ago - and the head will leave behind an indestructible wall of lacing on the side of the glass.
S: Well, itís a nitro-can beer, ergo the aroma is damn mild. In fairness, itís less mild than others (looking at you, Guinness Draught...), but with only touches of butter, mild fruitiness, and some earth, thereís nothing showstopping here. Whatís there smells perfectly fine, at least.
T: Well, itís a nitro-can beer, ergo flavors are almost negligible. What DO I pick up? Maybe some buttery tones to start, and a sweet tea-like finish. Actually, this drinks a lot like hard semi-sweet tea in general, but with a mild yet bothersome bitterness on the back end that I donít like.
M: Well, itís a nitro-can beer, ergo it feels watery and un-carbonated. It doesnít even have that spectacular drinkability most nitro-cans do, thanks to the fact itís not entirely dry on the back end. An easy drinking nature should have been itís next best trait next to how it looks in a glass - and it just isnít.
O: Well, itís a nitro-can beer, ergo it wasnít going to be plagued by the skunk you get from clear bottles. That, and itís drop dead gorgeous look, is about where my praise ends. Thereís nothing BAD about it...thereís just not much good about it, either. Itís really telling that this is far less drinkable than the 8.7% DIPA I had right before this.

OLD NOTES AUG 29, 2004
Bottle. Aroma of caramel, and roasted sorts of malts. Pours amber without all too much head to speak of. Has a nice body of malt with toffee and buttery flavours to it. Slight bitterness and not all too much hop character to speak of.
