Poured from a can with a widget. Smooth, malty aroma. Bready malt flavor with some bittering hops in the finish. Very creamy mouthfeel. Nothing out of the ordinary, just a really good, classic bitter.

Pours clear and deep amber. But the clear bottle does make me a little wary of skunk. None in the aroma, thankfully. That is rather inviting with toffee and fruit. Very crisp on the tongue. Toffee, apple, some cherries come through before grassy hops and a slightly bitter and dry finish. Goes down nice and smooth. Doesn’t pack a huge punch at 5.3% ABV, but a few of these would put you where you want to be. Solid beer, this. Easy to drink, tasty enough.

Easy drinking. Not the best but really enjoyed it. I tried it with Seafood and thought it went well with seafood.

Dark copper color. Medium thick white head. Watery, metallic aroma, faint sweet malts. Dry bitter taste, mild caramel.

0.355 bottle (pint). Nice malty aroma presented mostly by bread scents with a noticeable yeasty tone. Fine dark amber color, clear liquid and a nearly non-existing head. Taste is rather mild, different than the cask one, bitterness dominates it but only slightly. Light body and slick texture easily perceptible due to a low carbonation. Finish is not short though the beer could benefit from a tad longer one. The overall impression is that something is missing in this one, lack of a definite feisty, taste caused by wateriness might be the problem.

Pours a transcendent ruby red with not much head or lacing. The smell is skunk-like similar to a lot of european beers. The taste starts with the skunky flavor but evolves into a semi-sweet finish. Pretty interesting beer to say the least.

Poured from the nitro widget can, Old Speckled Hen has a roiling, thick, creamy head, and a clear, amber appearance. Lots of thick lacing is left down the glass. The aroma is sweet, musty, creamy, and one even gets a cafe-au-lait aspect here. Taste is of sweet caramel, cream, hop bitterness, and clean water. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, but an underlying wateriness does present itself. Old Speckled Hen finishes semi-dry, clean, and easy drinking. Overall, this beer is all upside and no downside. Get some! RJT

500 ml can. Clear light copper, foamy off white head settles and lasts. Roasty sweet malty aroma. Bitter hoppy caramel malt taste, some frutiness emerges as it warms. Softly carbed, light - medium bodied. Earthy bitter finish. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

Bottle from Sainsbury’s, at home. Pours a ruby-brown, finger of head. Aroma is caramely, some spice and a bit skunky. Taste is caramely, a bit spicy, a bit hoppy, decently bitter, rounded-ish and skunky. Medium bodied, bitter but sticky finish with a bit of burnt sugar. I was expecting more. It’s really let down by the clear bottle - you can taste the skunking a mile off. A shame.
