Commercial Description:
Pasteurised in bottles and nitro cans. Also available as "Smooth" from nitro tap.
Cask version was first brewed in 1979 by Morland Brewery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon. The name comes from the MG factory's works car - the gold speckled MG Featherweight Fabric Saloon, affectionately known as the Ol' Speckl'd 'Un.
Brewed since 1999 by Greene King following the take-over of Morland Brewery.

An excellent Bitter, very nice reddish rust color with a white head. Very smooth, with a bitter aftertaste. Quality beer.

I tried this beer on July 1, 2008 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer was originally in a clear bottle showing a translucent reddish-brown beer. The beer poured a translucent red with a thin tan head. The aroma was caramel malt, some nuts, and a little yeast. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, well carbonated, and crisp. The flavour is nutty malt, with a nice hop balance, a very enjoyable beer.

Can. Aroma of caramel malt, sweet fruits, and metal. Deep amber brown hue with a large off-white creamy head that leaves great lace. Flavor is caramel malt and fruity sweetness. Palate is smooth and watery flat. Medium-light bodied. Very smooth due to the nitro and not in any way offensive. Quite satisfying and not as metalic as the Abbot Ale sampled right before it. Would order it if found on tap or on a menu. Quite a decent brew.

Clear coppery orange color with off-white creamy head. Aroma is a bit sweet, malty, a bit of caramel malts. with nuts and slight hoppyness. Still quite lame though. Flavor is woody and malty with dry bitter finish. Palate is medium-bodied, oily and low carbonated.

500 mL bottle from LCBO. After 937 ratings I have nothing to say except I liked it. Just the right balance of bitterness.
