Cask in the Assembly House NW5 on Wingy’s stag. Middle copper coloured bitter, thin white head. I’m guessing Greene King may have changed this slightly as it appeared to be a dishwatery bitter with a vaguely sweetish malty feel and not much hop going on. Disappointing.

Cask at the Cleveland Arms, London. Pours clear, red-gold with a lastig, creamy head. Sugary bread and berries in the nose. Light sweet flavor, bready malts, light toast, berry fruits, mellow leafy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carcination. Great condition. Moderately sweet finish, mild dry earth, berries and leaves. Good balance overall. Solid bitter.

Cask at the Wheathseaf, Frimley Green - 05/01/13. Note - also had this as Sherlock and also as Raglan Best (Rugby) spoilt so I am ! Clear dark amber/brown with a thin off white head - looks inviting! Nose carries malt, yeast (that GK strain of course!), hint of fruit. Taste comprises light fruits, malts, GK yeast, touch of paper. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and some bitterness in the finish. Dull but not undrinkable!

Cask, Old Library, Oadby. Amber brown with a cream foam. Aromas are weetabix and earthy hops with raisins and hints of pear. Black tea with bready yeast and some herbal notes. Flavours are weetabix malts with autumn fruits and light lemon. Dry, spiced tea with nutty, herbal notes. Serviceable.

Handpull at The George (Strand). Clear light copper with a small but lasting creamy beige head. Aroma and taste is strong herbal diacetyl - chewy, mildly carbonated, medium bitter slightly harsh finish. What’s with the butterscotch and paper ?

Cask (backlog). Amber colour with a small off-white head leaves some lace. Aroma is fruity, nutty, crystal malty and bready malty along with mild toasted and resiny notes. Flavour is sweet malts, some nuttyness, mild caramel, herbs along with floral and grassy bitter hops.

First tasted this in the Water Witch, Odiham in June 1983. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear pale copper in colour with a thin white head. Slight note of dry hop flowers in the short aroma. Thin, resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a hint of digestive biscuit base with tart redcurrant fruit evident. Strong tang of metallic hop resins impart a dry bitter aftertaste. Finish has a malty edge with oak cask notes. An ok session bitter.

Cask by handpump at The Wallace, Paisley - clear copper ale with a medium off-white head, smoothish with fruity flavour, very pleasant ale, would make a good session beer
