Dacrza (148), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Apr 12, 2007 12 oz. bottle at home...smooth, clean, easily drinkable in mass quantities. Recalls the feel of sitting in London pubs a few years back, although this beer holds little memorable in taste. Light, thin average body that produces a nondescript light thin average taste. A serviceable brew that I’d serve friends by the case...
FishManLA (164), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Aug 9, 2008 I’ll never figure out what possesses some brewers to put their product in clear or green bottles. Don’t they understand the chemistry behind what happens when their product is exposed to light?! Orange/brown pour with a medium sized head. Nose of the stuff that comes out of the glands in a skunk’s ass and a taste of the same. Hints of rotting silage in the aroma as well. Underneath the skunk was hints of grains and hops. Finish had evidence of hop bitterness, but also some chalkiness and lingering skunk. This was almost a drain pour. The sad thing is, I suspect that the cask version, or a sample that had been kept in a light-tight box until just before opening might have been good. They really should consider using BROWN bottles!! troysworktable (99), Washington, USA Jul 28, 2008 12 ounce bottle.
The pour delivered a brilliantly clear orange body with a hint of pink in the color. A white head formed, which left good lacing behind. There were some minor bubbles that kept the color dancing about. Visually stunning.
The nose was of grains and yeast. The flavor was also of grains and yeast. It was good. Every once in a while, a light metallic flavor flashed across my tongue. It became more pronounced as the ale warmed, so I had to just finish it off.
All in all, a good beer, but nothing to write home about. (Sorry Mom. Maybe next time.) beerbill (1243), Laurel, New York, USA Jul 27, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a crystal clear gold with an orange hue and a thin white head that quickly disappeared. This is probably one of the strongest smelling beers I have come across - and not that that’s a good thing. Aroma of wet leather, green leaves, and malt. The taste was very heavy with these same qualities, although the malt was less noticeable. Moderate bitterness at the finish. This is not something I will revisit. zappafan99 (283), Rock Hill, South Carolina, USA Jul 25, 2008 Taste 7/8 bottle. Looks: Gold body with thin white top. Aroma: Sour yeast, very little else. Taste: Yeast heavy, thin body. Light hops spice. BLAND. moseslikesbeer (166), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2008 Updated: Jul 7, 2008Bottle(skunked bottle!) this is the 2nd time I got a skunked bottle from Greene King and it sucks because I would really enjoy this beer. The bottle had a rust ring around the top when I took the cap off. Aroma of malt and skunk. Nice copper color with a thin white head and some carbonation. No lacing AT ALL. I don’t even want to rate the rest of this because it tastes like skunk piss. There are hints of malt and it has a bitter finish but nothing else. This bottle kind of tastes like a mix of Bud and an English malt. DAMN CLEAR BOTTLES! Would like to try again on tap somewhere.
* had another bottle in my basement and I dug it out and this one was only starting to skunk and was a little bit better. Smelled a bit better and the taste was MUCH better. Still don’t think it’s great but would love to try on tap somewhere.
