moseslikesbeer (166), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 2, 2008 Updated: Jul 7, 2008 Bottle(skunked bottle!) this is the 2nd time I got a skunked bottle from Greene King and it sucks because I would really enjoy this beer. The bottle had a rust ring around the top when I took the cap off. Aroma of malt and skunk. Nice copper color with a thin white head and some carbonation. No lacing AT ALL. I don’t even want to rate the rest of this because it tastes like skunk piss. There are hints of malt and it has a bitter finish but nothing else. This bottle kind of tastes like a mix of Bud and an English malt. DAMN CLEAR BOTTLES! Would like to try again on tap somewhere.
* had another bottle in my basement and I dug it out and this one was only starting to skunk and was a little bit better. Smelled a bit better and the taste was MUCH better. Still don’t think it’s great but would love to try on tap somewhere.
MartiniFiend (86), Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USA Aug 27, 2008 Bottle. Light copper color with a large white head the disapates quickly. Nice hop aroma. Light to the palate. Flavor has a hop start with a light bitter sweet finish. carruthm (365), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 26, 2008 V - clear bottle, clear amber color with just a rim of head
A - doughy with some nuts and malts on the nose
T - nutty elements at first that wash out into a watery finish with just a touch of hops
P - little flat bitter aftertaste and an unfulfilled feeling after the initial taste. blipp (713), Grand Island, New York, USA Aug 22, 2008 Bottle. Pours orange with a white head. Sweet malt aroma with a bit of floral hops. Light body. Flavor is sweet, a bit nutty, almost toasty, with floral hops. Not bad. FishManLA (165), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Aug 9, 2008 I’ll never figure out what possesses some brewers to put their product in clear or green bottles. Don’t they understand the chemistry behind what happens when their product is exposed to light?! Orange/brown pour with a medium sized head. Nose of the stuff that comes out of the glands in a skunk’s ass and a taste of the same. Hints of rotting silage in the aroma as well. Underneath the skunk was hints of grains and hops. Finish had evidence of hop bitterness, but also some chalkiness and lingering skunk. This was almost a drain pour. The sad thing is, I suspect that the cask version, or a sample that had been kept in a light-tight box until just before opening might have been good. They really should consider using BROWN bottles!! troysworktable (99), Washington, USA Jul 28, 2008 12 ounce bottle.
The pour delivered a brilliantly clear orange body with a hint of pink in the color. A white head formed, which left good lacing behind. There were some minor bubbles that kept the color dancing about. Visually stunning.
The nose was of grains and yeast. The flavor was also of grains and yeast. It was good. Every once in a while, a light metallic flavor flashed across my tongue. It became more pronounced as the ale warmed, so I had to just finish it off.
All in all, a good beer, but nothing to write home about. (Sorry Mom. Maybe next time.)
