Nuffield (2536), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jul 24, 2003 Bottle no. 07971. Like the Fullers' vintages, they put (were obligated?) to put "best before end 96" on the label, but this has all the hallmarks of a beer that can mature a very long time. There is much in common with the JW Lees Harvest Ales. Low carbonation, mildly syrupy appearance (but less so than the Lees), rich and full aroma of English Christmas cake and a hint of oak. The flavor bursts out with more complexity--lots of raisins, some very toasty flavors, an edge of port-like sweetness (but again somewhat muted), and the alcohol is probably more in check than the Fullers vintages with only the slightest tingle on the tongue to indicate the 8%. Not the greatest ever, but a very fine beer. (bottle drank July 2003)
