Pours an amber color with a white head. The flavor is mildly tart and lactic, but it’s also very sweet. Tons of candy sugar, a bit of grass, and some mild oak. Surprising amounts of lambic flavor to this, too. A bit of lemon and tartness, mild grass, some oak, and very mild funk. Still, it does have a lot of sugar and sweetness to it, as with any faro.

At the Mort Subite café in Brussels, where this brand is obviously cultivated to a high degree, seen the history behind it. Thin, snow white, quickly opening but still fairly stable head - the fact that this even has a head to begin with, reveals that it is not ’home made’ like faro should be in its authentic form. Deep, clear, pretty orange blonde colour. Aroma surprisingly still shows quite some lambic funkiness and complexity; hints of orange, artisanal cider, peach, sherry, dry white wine, wood, wet leather and hay. Soft acidic taste, citrus peel touch, mitigated by candi sugar sweetness as expected, caramelly too, sourish ’drought’ does continue though, paired with somewhat sticky, but not too disturbing ’sugariness’. Not the most authentic faro, that much is clear, but it does retain a certain lambic character more so than most other ’industrial’ bottled faros.

On tap at Mort Subite, Brussels. Pours a clear coppery color, topped with a very small white head. Mild soury aroma, grapes and a hint of cellar aroma. Taste is sweet and fruity, with mild soury notes later on. Nice and enjoyable, easily drinkable.

On tap at Mort Subite, Brussels. This is great for hangover or when you are just tired. For those moods the sweetness is refreshing. Forget the energy drinks. The traditional cafe Mort Subite is also the right place to drink this. You get a time travel back to the beginning of the 1900s.

On tap at Mort Subite in Brussel. Clear copper brown pour with white head. Aroma is tame, very mild funk, light oaky notes. Taste is sweet, malty with light sourness, just a bit of oak and cherry, almost like a flemish red but very light. Palate is med-light bodied with med carbonation. Not necessarily good, but better than a lot of Faro I’ve had.
