On tap at the source, Brussels. Handsome, vibrant look to the beer, a slightly cloudy and well carbonated pale orange. Nose is bright, citric, and has just a bit of sweetness to it. Playful mouthfeel, not overly acetic. Taste is pleasant and unemphatic, tart and crisp like a young apple, and it’s overall a pretty nice starter gueuze.

0,25L bottle. Pours clear amber with off-white head. The head stays. Aroma is dry, sour, wheat. Flavor is sour, some sweetness, wood. Overall: simple, easy to drink.

One of the ’capsulekensgeuzes’, sweetened, bottled on 25 cl like standard lager and diluted with top-fermented beer. Creamy, off-white, sticky head leaving pretty spiderwebs on the edge of the glass, stable; colour a pure orangey amber, clear with lively sparkles. Aroma reveals some lambic tartness but in a ’cleansed’ kind of way, impressions of wine vinegar, lemon juice, white candi sugar, orange peel, honey, tomato, hay, white grapes, butterscotch and a vague ’cooked’ smell of pasteurization. Taste sweet and sour, typical ’versnijbier’, with the acidity of wine vinegar and lemon juice softened by candi sugar, refreshing but ’dead’ and straightforward, caramelly but not in the malty way, spritzy and slick, flowing smoothly over the tongue and ending in a finish dried by the initial acidity and a faint leafy hop bitterness; somewhere in the background there is still a very weak echo of barnyard and horseblanket. Nothing compared to the ’real’ geuzes but better than e.g. its Belle-Vue competitor, in my view.

Een van de mindere geuzes die op de markt zijn voor mij. Iets te weinig smaak.

Appearance: Golden amber, very nice colour actually. Might get my next car this colour. Clear, with nice amount of creamy off-white head.
Aroma: Tart fruit, not much else.
Taste: Sourness, fruits, tartness. Though quite a bit of sweetness. Not the typical gueuze, but for me that’s a good thing.
Bought: Drinks of the World (Basel), 375 ml, CHF 4.50

Bottle at home. Pours a clear orange amber with a white head. Aroma is sweet, a little sour, bit fruity, wood and barnyard. Taste is sweet, just a little sour in the end, yeast, sugar, bit fruity. Not bad, but a bit too sweet.

Bottle 0,25ltr: Bronze/gold colored brew with almost no sour, this one is commercial sweet. Hints of apple , its more an apple cider.

25 cl glas på torget i Bryssel. Fantastisk god suröl som fick avsluta vistelsen i Bryssel.
