The Kriek Mort Subite is brewed according to the ancestral lambic recipe. This original Belgian beer ferments spontaneously. Enriched with cherries, it matures soft and slowly in oaken casks. To be served cool.

cheap cherry candy/chewinggum nose, cheap taste of fizzy artificial cherry-aroma alcopop, or an almost non-alcoholic softdrink, with a cloying dextrose sweetness. Where is the oak? Where is the sourness? Nice appearance, though.

Pours raspberry beret red into the glass. Starts with a thick slab of foam the colour of cotton candy that unfortunately deflates quicker then my pay cheque. This is a pretty pedestrian lambic, with the sweetness turned up high enough to cloak the sour base of the brew. Reminds me of that shellac like coating you get on a candy apple. I’d prefer a more mouth puckering sourness, but I sort of get the appeal & imagine it would be a big hit for grade nine students to quaff a bunch of these before a high school dance.

Bottle. 4.5%. Best before 20.06.15. Pours a clear amber/golden, with a pinkish head. Decent lacing. Artificial cherry aroma, slightly malty. Flavour is tart, wit hartificial cherry, a bit watery, and with a light metallic note. Cereals as it warms. Dry finish. Overall so-so. 28.02.15.

Sample in Leiden. Clear ruby body, head is small fully diminishing. Nose is bubble gum flavor is sour cherry. Heavy sweet, medium sour. Finish is long lasting moderated sour. Medium body, sticky, average carbonation. Not too easy, too sweet, not my style but not bad.
