The Kriek Mort Subite is brewed according to the ancestral lambic recipe. This original Belgian beer ferments spontaneously. Enriched with cherries, it matures soft and slowly in oaken casks. To be served cool.

"Not as tart or complex as your traditional Belgian lambic. Soft cherry aroma and flavor. Nice, if a one trick pony. Very little funk/ sour. Kinda like Kasteel Rogue. I’d get again. Good after meal drink."

About as red as it comes really. It looks like original recipe Berroca with a temporary white head that looks like spun marshmallow. Aromas of sour cherry (go figure), sweet juicy and enticing. The flavour is more tart than I was expecting, but even then it was fairly mild. It gained a somewhat acidic quality the longer it sat on the palate, which it did for a while.

250ml bottle. Clear deep ruby red color. Small size, bubbly pink head, stays. Cherry, faint sour, bit yeasty and some sweet notes in aroma. Cherry, sour, slightly sugary taste. Sharp bit, but mellow at the same time. Somewhat aggressive. Clean mouthfeel. Short cherry in aftertaste. Nice one!

Bottle 0,25L. Clear, light red colour with big, frothy, light red head and a lot of visible carbonation. Aroma of cherries and nothing else. Taste starts light sweet and gently, followed by cherry mouthfeel and turns into sour/acidic aftertaste. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Nice, refreshing and easy to drink kriek.

The standard ’compromized’ kriek Mort Subite, a classic since 1972, restyled when they launched Mort Subite XTreme Kriek and now fully named Mort Subite Kriek Traditionelle - though this is not 100% lambic and sweetened, contrary to their actual traditional kriek, called Mort Subite Oude Kriek. Light pink head, deep cherry red colour; sweet with sourish touch, lemon, ascorbic acid, elderberry aroma, cherry syrup, corn, red candy. Lambic complexity and woodiness is still noticeable, but in a very light and subtle way, as in their framboise or (sweetened) geuze.

On draught at A la Mort Subite in brussels. Light, freshly pressed cherry juice. Clear ruby with a full white head and substantial lacing. Taste is tart cherry. This mouthfeel. Slightly dry finish.

375 ml bottle. Pours a reddish mahogany with moderate white head that settles quickly. Aromas of sweetened cherry pie filling and wood. Flavors of dry, sugary cherry juice. Mellow and soft. Lots of carbonation. More of a cooler than a lambic.

La mia preferita tra le kriek, dolce ma non troppo. Sia nel gusto che per l’aroma si sente fortissima la presenza delle ciliege.. Come bene il succo! Notevole!
