3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 1, 2015 375 ml bottle
Amber to orange beer with white head. Clear without yeast, hazy with yeast. Aroma and flavor have sour vinegar, farmhouse, citrus and sugar. Palate is medium full with quite strong carbonation. Finish is very sour with vinegar and crisp citrus. Pouring in the yeast tames the sourness a bit. Still, a bit too sour and vinegarish.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle split at James’s house, thanks to JF, 13/12/14.
Hazed orange golden initially sporting a decent off white covering that soon collapses to spottage.
Nose is damp wood, lemon rind, sweet apple notes, light must.
Taste comprises citric peel, light sweetness, musty wood, tarte peach, straw, earthy, lemon rind, apple core.
Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close.
Lower end gueuze, does a job but overly sweet and not as sharp and refreshing as I expect from the style.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Slightly dull aroma, gently sweet, no sourness. Pale, surprisingly carbonated, I got quite a head. Very crisp sharp palate, proper geueze sarpness. but it’s watery too. Dull and boring at worst. Wanted to like it, as a more traditional geueze, but the alkaen-maesiness took over. These guys need to relearn their Belgian roots.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
My first ever oude gueuze. Pours golden, with small, short head. Clear, high carbonated. Aroma of vinegar, sour, funky notes. Really sour taste, bit tart. Unusual beer, not bad.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Belgo, Camden on 30 Jul 2012. Poured a hazy golden, with a dense white head. Aroma of acidic fruit, wood chips and yeasty esters. Grapefruit in the flavour, with sharp fruit and some brown sugar to balance. Finish was quite light, with some residual sourness, hay and chalk.

I’m also in that "I thought I’d rated that"-boat. Pours little head atop a copper body. Nose of vinegar and sweaty socks. Fairly tart, wet tobacco and balsamic. Good but not great.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle @ home. Kind of surprised I never rated this before. Clear orange golden color, medium sized white head. Aroma is brett, lightly sourish. Taste is soft and smooth, a light sourish hint, brett, a slight hint of dried fruits, more fruity than I had expected. This is really good. Well at least, I really like it. Very well balanced, soft sourness and smooth mouthful. Very nice.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a clear deep golden body with a medium white head. Nose is red berries, minty leaves, stable funk, straw, hay, lemon peel and hints of cork, cellar dust and grains. Taste is tart lemony acidic notes, straw, grains, stable funk, grass and hints of red berries and apple vinegar. Medium to light body, medium to high carbonation. Surprisingly sour and yet smooth when compared to the commercially widespread counterpart; this is how Mort Subite’s regular geuze should be in my book. I like it.
