jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands Nov 15, 2004 Sweet fruity and caramel aroma. Dark amber color, off-white head, good lace. Sweet, light bitter, caramel, malty, hint of smoke and whisky, medium body. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Nov 5, 2004 0.33l bottle (I think) Clear bottle - skunky aroma, but thankfully, the flavor wasn’t that affected. I think that this is underrated, but not that much. Tastes sweet, but not too much, it’s honeyish and malty, but not like a whiskey. It was quite pleasant, which quite suprised me. Tasted far more like a good red, than like a smoked. But there wasn’t much of a taste, almost no aftertaste, and it was skunky, so I have to lower the score. Probably found a good (even if it was a bit skunky) bottle. Oh, right, it also hides the alcohol quite well. kendog (16), whittier, California, USA Aug 24, 2004 I like whisky and I like beer but when you try to make a whisky beer your asking for trouble. The flavor, aroma and color are very similar to old English 800 the only difference was that this stuff is six bucks a bottle. Leave it to the French to mess up another beer. Ungstrup (14757), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 15, 2004 [At Fete de la Biere 2004, Lausanne] A light brown beer with no head. The aroma is faint - what is there is of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of honey and malt. SilkTork (4155), Rochester, Kent, England Jun 28, 2004 Bottle. The French love these whiskey malt beers - this one comes in a bottle designed like a whiskey bottle. Not as caramelly sweet as others like Adelscott, this one has a cheap whiskey taste to it, especially in the harsh finish. There’s also a lot of stewed black tea flavours - in fact, imagine stewed tea with whiskey and that’s the beer. omhper (12154), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 11, 2004 Bottled. Amber colour, no head. Syrupy nose with some smokiness. Extremely sweet. The sugar dominates to the point that all in the way of malt and smoke flavours are killed and covered in thick layers of syrup. I'll never be able to finish a 75cl bottle of this... zach8270 (2051), Henrietta, New York, USA Feb 3, 2004 Updated: Dec 12, 2008[bottle] Pours a gold amber color with low carbonation and a thin white head. Very mild aroma, mostly bitter. An interesting flavor. Slight malt taste with a little sweet mixed in. Watery mouthfeel. No strong aftertaste. Hides the alcohol well. jaymobrown (1343), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 23, 2003 Tries to give an appearance of being a whiskey with the color and the design of the bottle. The screw off cap is a nice touch as well. Looks like tea with an alive foamy head. Mild bitter nose with a soda-like effervescence. Mild smoke flavors, but nothing really bold. I'm partial to heavily smoked beers and this falls flat. Some warming alcohol in the end. Some malt flavors. Awful mouthfeel. It's like needles in my mouth.
