Oakes (7618), Bamberg, Germany Mar 18, 2003 Light chestnut color. Light whisky in the nose, but lacking in much else. Lagerish, with a vague hint of the whisky. Not cloying like MacGregor, but just as bland.
AWS9 (182), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Aug 18, 2007 Pint, Paris. Looks nice in the glass, head diminishes eventually. Nice, dark taste to it. First sip is as good as the last. Moz (613), Gothenburg, Sweden May 15, 2007 Bottle. Amber colour with almost no head. Aroma of malt & whisky. Sweet flavour with moderate notes of smoke. Soft mouthfeel. faroeviking (5431), The Autonomous Beer Republic, Faroe Islands Feb 4, 2007 Bottle. Amber colour with a small bubbly head. Malty, fruity and caramel, bit somkish aroma. Flavour is sweet with a cheap whiskey touch, good maltiness with some smokiness. Sweet finish. Warming feeling from the alcohol. A better quality whisky would have helped a lot on the taste of this beer. Saarlander (1553), Saarlouis, California, Germany Dec 19, 2006 For a smoked beer, its very lacking, more malty than anything, but just very plain, maybe a hint of fruit, but not much going on, drinkable, just very plain for what was expected. harrisoni (6125), Ashford, Kent, England Dec 5, 2006 75cl from Carrefour, Calais. I really must stop doing this to myself. I’ve had just about everything but the ciders in Carrefour, so when I was in there last week, I found myself looking at the beers, that although I hadn’t had I thought that I should buy to try. I should have bought six bottles of Gayant la Goudale. This is chestnut colour with bubbly white head. Bit of rubbery malt aroma. Some hop. Quite nice fruitymalt in mouth. Bit hollow. Nice finish with some herby hop on end. Some candy sugar. Quite likeable. If a little dull in mouth. Spice/herb is good. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Nov 30, 2006 From a 1 pint 9.4 oz clear glass bottle that looks like your classic scotch whiskey bottle, a blurb on the back label, no freshness date.
Poured a cloudy fresh, raw apple cider copper with a foamy off-white head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing.
Aromas of sweet caramel malts mixed with a buttery toffee, a light apple fruitiness, a subtle peat and a light whiskey-like alcohol.
Pleasant Scottish Ale taste, caramel and toffee with a nice lingering butteriness, a hint of nutty grain, the alcohol has a light peat whiskey flavor, lightly warming in the palate, a subtle pineapple yeasty fruitiness, light and soft on the hop bitterness, and a malty, yeasty with a touch of peat finish.
A nice Scottish Ale from a historic region of France, smooth, easy drinkability, at an affordable price, well worth trying. For anyone who cares, the name is Mortimer, it’s in a Scotch bottle and if your label is different from the one pictured, please take a close look at the Scotchman picture at the left, then look at the color and body of the brew before you, the smell and taste, I think you will realize this is a Scottish Ale.
eve (240), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 16, 2006 Had this on tap at a cafe in Paris. Amber-brown with moderate beige head, sweet malty aroma with a hint of whisky on the nose, taste is sweet and nutty with some subtle hints of whiskey, I don’t really get the smoke or the peat. Smooth palate and easy to drink with dark fruit and a little toffee. frankenkitty (1873), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA May 5, 2006 My bottle weighs in @ 8%
Goofy, screw-top liquor bottle pours out a murky, rust/brown bodied beer with a creamy off-white head. Sour, stale, earthy malted aroma with basement mustiness and skunked Fuggles. The only "smoke" I can find is in a hint of burnt plastic. Flavor takes a sweet turn with candied-caramel malt and whisky, albeit thin. Creamy mouthfeel with an aftertaste of scotch. This wouldn’t be too bad if I didn’t like beer.
My bottle reads (in part): "Murie en Cave de Garde". Doesn’t that imply this is a Bière de Garde? That would make more sense than "Smoked"...
