3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
750 ml bottle at Swingbridge grand re-opening. Dark and murky brownish black, large tan head, a nice surprise for a barrel-aged beer. Aroma of whiskey and powdered cocoa. Taste is slight bourbon, coffee, very long finish with bourbon late. Body is too light. Not bad.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear dark brown color with a minimal tan head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Moderate to heavy roast coffee, chocolate, wood and bourbon alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy dark bourbon sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid brew.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The pour is surprisingly lively and overcarbonated. Almost black in color with a huge tan head.
S: Smells pretty nice. Lots of roast and dark chocolate with a decent coffee aroma. There is a bit of char to it as well as some burnt sugar, licorice, and just a hint of dark fruits. Really complex and good.
T: The flavor is quite as good, but still nice. Dark chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, char, and plenty of roasted malts. Just a little bit of licorice and molasses and perhaps a dark fruit character.
M: Medium in body with a fairly high level of carbonation.
O: I was impressed by this beer. The nose was quite nice, and the flavor wasn’t half bad either.

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2012 Bottle… Pours deeply black with crimson highlights and no head. The bouquet offers dark chocolate and deeply roasted malts interwoven with notations of alcohol and black licorice. Medium-bodied and a touch thin with jazzy carbonation. Big cocoa plays nicely with hot bourbon and a minerally component. Burnt, roasty, grassy finish. Bottle courtesy of newcigarz!

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap at Blind Tiger Local Food Bash. Deep black pour with a tight tan head. The nose is quite roasty and chewy. Lots of chewy/tarry character. A bit of heavy cocoa and some salty black licorice character as well. A little bit of light berryish character on the back of the palate. It’s got a touch of sweetness that kind of keeps it fairly drinkable. Pretty decent stuff really. A little bit vineous.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle as Mother Earth Silent Night thanks to torino. Pours with a black body and a tan head. Aromas of fudge, coffee, alcohol, wood, husky, cocoa and vanilla beans. Roasty flavors with coffee, and nearly a peppery note (alcohol or barrel character, I’m not sure). Earthy. Lively yet rich. Vanilla in the finish.
