This is a huuuuge beer. Brewed for Urge Gastropub with all NZ Nelson, Big Mother is a worthy adversary to its Imperial counterparts: “The beer pours a slow-burning ember hue, exhibiting great clarity and a bouquet that, with its papaya, mango, and passion fruit notes, is like sticking one’s nose in a gift basket full of tropical fruit. The real treat comes on the first sip. Pronounced grapefruit notes hit first, giving way to a semisweet roundness, followed by a finish with savory hints of deeply brűléed sugar.” -Brandon Hernández, San Diego Reader Magazine

650 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium fluffy off-white head that has great retention. The aroma is somewhat mild with oranges, tangerines, bubble gum and caramel. The flavor is vibrant tropical fruits with a big pineapple presence, add in some tangy tangerine, bitter grapefruit and not-to-sweet caramel. The palate is full and viscous with lively carbonation. Finishes long and dry. Overall: First rate DIPA.

Bomber from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark gold with a slight foamy whitish head. Aroma of sweet caramel and a large load of mixed exotic fruits. Med + body. Flavor is strongly hoppy - fruity hoppy - with some sweetness. It doesn’t seem dank, but there’s so much hop it should be. Grape seems prominent. Heat doesn’t seem an issue. I could continue to go in circles on this, but, heck, time to start drinking seriously.

22 oz bottle from Bine and Vine shared with drsordr. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma opened with a strange sulfur note that distracted, but soon disappeared clearing the way for more expected notes of candied fruits, resin, spicy hops. The flavor had more candied citrus, apple, resin, spicy hops, toasted malts try to balance, caramel, sweetness is a bit more than I would hope to see, moderate bitterness.

Bottle shared by alexsdad06 pours lightly hazy avg gold with moderate white head. Nose immediately on opening some strange sulfur smell, but then cleared. I’m sure no one broke wind in the room. After a minute, nose dank hop, some earthy, and caramel. Taste big bitter bite up front, then some jolly rancher green apple, candied fruit, and sweet malt. Mid palate moderate bitter continues to finish. Hides the alcohol pretty well.

Impressive beer; wow. Fruit filled palate with complex hops throughout. Too easy to drink for a 10.5%. This is a big mother of a beer and loved every sip. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Shared bomber poured to snifters, displaying a hazed, orangey gold color, with a bubbly layer of off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The nose was dank & earthy, with moderately expressive notes of citrus & tropical fruit. Medium bodied, with decent carbonation, the taste included a moderate & lingering, citrus & rind bitterness, and alcohol presence that were appropriately mellowed by some malty sweetness, and probably tempered by some age. Not as strong as anticipated for a "Triple IPA", but quite tasty.

Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours light amber with a t;hick foamy white head and a toffee and citrus aroma. There is a full-bodied caramel malt flavor with a nice dose of hop bitterness that balances out the massive malt base. Very delicious.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2015 big 6fl bottle, straight fresh from SD thanks BOB. 5th anniversary ale. Moderate dense foam, gold to light amber colour, little bit hazy. Smells fruity, tropical, resin, pungent, mint, fresh. Tastes orange, malty, biscuity, caramel, resin/weed; medium pleasant and round sweetness, very nice medium bitterness which is really the best thing, very balanced. Medium bodied, creamy and slick texture, masks extremly well the alcohool. Maybe the most balanced Imperial IPA I’ve tried, awesome brew

Bottle @ home. Clear amber pour with a massive off-white head. Lots of sticky lacing as well. Sweet caramel malts and citrus fruits. Some pineapple upside down cake. Some pine and a bit of spice. The flavor is just too sweet for me. Lots of candied fruits and dried pineapple. Somewhat bitter on the finish with a big pine and resin finish. Mild alcohol, decent enough citrus, and caramel malts.
