COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a huuuuge beer. Brewed for Urge Gastropub with all NZ Nelson, Big Mother is a worthy adversary to its Imperial counterparts: “The beer pours a slow-burning ember hue, exhibiting great clarity and a bouquet that, with its papaya, mango, and passion fruit notes, is like sticking one’s nose in a gift basket full of tropical fruit. The real treat comes on the first sip. Pronounced grapefruit notes hit first, giving way to a semisweet roundness, followed by a finish with savory hints of deeply brûléed sugar.” -Brandon Hernández, San Diego Reader Magazine

650 ml bottle from Bev4less. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium fluffy off-white head that has great retention. The aroma is somewhat mild with oranges, tangerines, bubble gum and caramel. The flavor is vibrant tropical fruits with a big pineapple presence, add in some tangy tangerine, bitter grapefruit and not-to-sweet caramel. The palate is full and viscous with lively carbonation. Finishes long and dry. Overall: First rate DIPA.

Bottle from Capitol Beer & Tap Room. Pours light amber with a t;hick foamy white head and a toffee and citrus aroma. There is a full-bodied caramel malt flavor with a nice dose of hop bitterness that balances out the massive malt base. Very delicious.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2015 big 6fl bottle, straight fresh from SD thanks BOB. 5th anniversary ale. Moderate dense foam, gold to light amber colour, little bit hazy. Smells fruity, tropical, resin, pungent, mint, fresh. Tastes orange, malty, biscuity, caramel, resin/weed; medium pleasant and round sweetness, very nice medium bitterness which is really the best thing, very balanced. Medium bodied, creamy and slick texture, masks extremly well the alcohool. Maybe the most balanced Imperial IPA I’ve tried, awesome brew

Bottle @ home. Clear amber pour with a massive off-white head. Lots of sticky lacing as well. Sweet caramel malts and citrus fruits. Some pineapple upside down cake. Some pine and a bit of spice. The flavor is just too sweet for me. Lots of candied fruits and dried pineapple. Somewhat bitter on the finish with a big pine and resin finish. Mild alcohol, decent enough citrus, and caramel malts.

Bomber from Olive Tree Market. Pouring the bomber results in a huge aroma of mangoes and papaya, very fruity. Lightly hazy orange with a big off white head. Flavor is lightly bitter, lightly sweet with lots of tropical fruitiness.

Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: Modern Times pint glass From: Trader Joe’s in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif. Price: $8.99 (I think (lost receipt)) Purchased: May 21, 2015 Consumed: May 22, 2015 Misc.: 2015 version - 10.5 pct. ABV Poured a golden, orange, hazy color with three fingers of frothy, white head. Could just barely see some bublles coming up along the sides of the glass. Good amount of uneven, spiderweb lacing along the sides of the glass. Average-to-above average retention. (Sight - 3.88) Smelled pleasant hops up front of Citra, floral, Centennial and tropical. Also got nectarine, nectarine rind, caramel, peach, mango and light pineapple. (Smell - 4.13) Initial thought on the first taste was…. funky. Got spoiled fruit, Centennial hops, Citra hops, floral hops, tropical hops, melon, pineapple, mango, tangerine rind, Grew on me late, but couldn’t quite pull the 4.00 trigger. (Taste - 3.88) Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. (Feel - 3.88) This was just a funky beer, but the more it went down the more I thought it of the good side. (Overall - 4.00) 3.95 89 B+

Big hop aroma....that was the great stuff. Thats about it. Just a hop oil tea. No malt no dimension just straight hop oil. You couldnt even tell the different flavors from the hops.
