There is something really intriguing about a beer that is light in color, yet still infused with huge aroma and flavor, isn’t there? It deceives the senses in a pleasant, yet completely surprising way; tasting great beer tends to be like that. So much of what we "expect" to taste, influences our opinion even before we actually do the tasting. Today, we ask that you set any preconceived notions aside so that you can take in the unexpected. A simple grain bill of pils, light crystal, and a bit of wheat, combined with a vigorous hop dosing of Mosaic and Simcoe make this beer just bookoo enough. Just don’t call it "too bookoo!"

Type: 12-oz. can Glass: Hotel water glass From: Barons Market in Alpine, Calif. Price: $10.99 for a 6-pack Purchased: May 13, 2015 Consumed: May 14, 2015 Misc.: Enjoy by Aug. 20, 2015; Reviewing at the Courtyard Marriott in Culver City, Calif. Poured a golden, honey, clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of rocky white head. Almost looked like dehydrated urine. Average amount of foamy, spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Above average-to-good retention. (Sight - 3.88) Smelled a great whiff of hops - Mosaic, floral and light Simcoe - caramel, buttery malts and faint grapefruit rind. (Smell - 4.13) Tasted similar to the nose, getting those Mosaic, floral and light Simcoe hops, some Citra hops, and those caramel, buttery, earthy malts and slightly spoiled grapefruit rind. Took me awhile to figure out, but reminded me slightly of a Duet, so we’ll call it a poor man’s Duet. (Taste - 4.00) Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, slightly bitter finish. (Feel - 3.88) This was a really good IPA overall. I’d have it again (and will with my other five in the 6-pack). (Overall - 4.00) 4.01 90 A-

Draft. Substantial apricot aroma. Soapy, wet lace. Flavors of guava, apricot, a hint of caramel, and then a water-cracker-dry finish. Superb. Subtle. Layered.
