COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Steeped in a long history dating back hundreds of years, this "old-fashioned" beer is again in vogue. Lager is the German word meaning "to store," so this beer ages three times longer than our ales do. "Dunkel" means dark in German, but don’t let the color fool you, it is by no means heavy, overbearing, or bitter. In fact, it proves to be a very drinkable session beer.

16 aug 2013, bottle. Clear amber, no bubbles. Nose is meaty and malty. Med body and mildly fizzy. Tastes of serious wort. Bready, slightly toasty. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle. Dark brown pour with a thin white ring of white. Aroma is sweet and nutty. a little sour. Flavor is also a little sour and nutty. Smooth and mild. Good, but not my go to choice, even for the style.

Bottle. Pours light brown, thin tan head. Mild aroma of toasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate. Medium sweet taste. Medium-light body, slick texture, nice mild bitterness rounds it out. Good representation of the style and enjoyable beer.

The head is stable, the body brown. It smells darkmalty, sweet, ok. The Taste is mild, darkmalty, bit hoppy. I very like this one for a normal style German Dunkel. 12/12/12/12/13/12

On tap at NOC in NC? Malt, hops and some over-ripe dark fruit in the aroma. A little fruitiness in the taste as well, but mostly a simple malt flavor with a mild hop overlaid. Has a mildly bitter finish and aftertaste. Medium-light body; fine carbonation. O - an interesting beer with a solid and lingeering dark malt finish and aftertaste.

Pours dark brown with a thin head. The aroma is wonderful, malty with some smoke, earthy the flavor is rich with the smoky malts and earthiness. Quite a delightful beer.

Pours a clear dark, amber w/ small off-white head that quickly vanishes to a lasting thin sheet w/ spotty lacing. Fruity, caramel aroma with some pear, toffee, earth and tobacco. Mouthfeel is medium and smooth, almost creamy. Finish is sweet w/ some bitterness. Flavors are caramel w/ a hint of coffee and dark chocolate. An excellent balance of sweet and bitter on the back end. I really enjoyed this one, and will pick it up whenever I can.

12oz Bottle. Thanks for sharing, Rob! Between this and the Endless River, I am really impressed with Mother Earth’s traditional German style brewing. Nice work. On this, a toasty fresh bread and grain aroma. Flavors move more towards the dark fruits and browned nuts, but the crispness from the lagering is delectable. Very satisfying, round, and balanced. Some malt fruitiness and richness for flavor, not too much sugar nor alcohol for drinkability, and that really quenching crispness. Good Dunkel.

Had a hard time seeing anything here. There was a strong metallic twang to the beer, which overshadowed anything else. I think that if you could eliminate the metal it might be ok, but alas, ’twas not to be.
