3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 womencantsail (6896) - Garbage Grove, California, USA - SEP 6, 2011
A: the pour is dark brown in color with a finger of off-white head.
S: Starts off with a mild aroma of roasted malts. This is followed by hints of chocolate and a light coffee note. There are some hints of dark fruits, specifically raisins, along with a mild toffee sweetness and some toasted bread.
T: Coffee grounds and roasted malts are the first flavors I pick up. Those are followed by toffee and toasted bread, which provide a nice, subtle sweetness. There is jus a light bitterness and earthy hop flavor.
M: Medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation.
O: You don’t often see a Dunkel as part of a US brewery’s regular line-up, let alone a well done one. Solid beer.

Bottle thanks to Spencer. Pours a clear brown/red color with a medium off-white head. The aroma is sweet fruity malts, some grapes in there and light toast. The flavor is a nice Dunkel; sweet but not overly so, dry, fruity, lingering but light bitterness in the finish. Nice.

I don’t like dunkels too much but this beer was very nicely done. Like the description says it was pretty light and session able with nice malt flavors.

Pours a smooth chocolate brown. Caramel malty aroma. Taste is slightly sweet caramel and a little earthy. Light bitter finish that lasts. Nicely carbonated. One dimensional, but does what it claims to nicely. Refreshing for sipping on with fish this evening.
3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 deadheadbill (14) - Crystal River, Florida, USA - MAY 3, 2011
Dark brown with a nice tan head that dissipated fairly slowly. Not a lot of aroma coming out of the glass, but some smells of dark malt and slight brown sugar. Medium bodied with nice malty flavors and some dark fruits popping in, finishing with a little hop bite. True to the German dunkel style with the exception of being slightly hoppier.
Overall a very nice dunkel and very drinkable.
