COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Steeped in a long history dating back hundreds of years, this "old-fashioned" beer is again in vogue. Lager is the German word meaning "to store," so this beer ages three times longer than our ales do. "Dunkel" means dark in German, but don’t let the color fool you, it is by no means heavy, overbearing, or bitter. In fact, it proves to be a very drinkable session beer.

Dark in color with a pleasing bitter taste and a slight hoppy aftertaste. Might be a good dark session beer. Enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Dark brown like stained oak. Virtually no head whatsoever after the first few seconds. The beer emits a sweet aroma and drinks with a easy-going dunkel character -- sweetly malty, with a tinge that almost crosses the line into cocoa, but not quite. Easy to drink, unoffending in any way, so most anyone would be OK with it. (#4472, 2/7/2012)

Strong, malty aroma is slightly musky and has earthy, molasses and nutty notes. It pours a somewhat translucent sepia with a fairly thick, if not persistent, wheat-brown head that leaves considerable lacing. Rich flavor has a malty core and caramel, earthy, nutty and molasses notes. Firm-bodied texture is smooth yet rather tingly, leaving an earthy, woody finish. Eminently drinkable and enjoyable.

UPDATED: DEC 9, 2011 A little bit of bitterness on the finish. Nice dark brown with a slightly off-white head. Very palatable, but a little bit thinner than I like.

Aroma of roasted nuts, caramel, and hints of pine. Pours murky brown with a medium head. Tastes sweet with nuts, apple peel, caramel, and a bitter lager aftertaste. Decent autumn beer.

12oz bottle. Poured a dark amber color with a short tan head and little lacing. The aroma and flavor have a big rich, dark bready toast, caramel, nutty and coca character, that begins dry and then a sweet candy note rolls in before a mildy bitter and fruity finish. A bit thin in the mouth with a light body and mild carbonation. Very easy to drink and smooth.

A: the pour is dark brown in color with a finger of off-white head. S: Starts off with a mild aroma of roasted malts. This is followed by hints of chocolate and a light coffee note. There are some hints of dark fruits, specifically raisins, along with a mild toffee sweetness and some toasted bread. T: Coffee grounds and roasted malts are the first flavors I pick up. Those are followed by toffee and toasted bread, which provide a nice, subtle sweetness. There is jus a light bitterness and earthy hop flavor. M: Medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation. O: You don’t often see a Dunkel as part of a US brewery’s regular line-up, let alone a well done one. Solid beer.

Dark brown pour with light tan head. Aroma of brown sugar sour malt and a hinto peat. Roasted caramel and light peat, with a pleasant biter. Medium bodied with a bito fizz. Nice beer.
