COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Steeped in a long history dating back hundreds of years, this "old-fashioned" beer is again in vogue. Lager is the German word meaning "to store," so this beer ages three times longer than our ales do. "Dunkel" means dark in German, but don’t let the color fool you, it is by no means heavy, overbearing, or bitter. In fact, it proves to be a very drinkable session beer.

Well the description of this beer is on target at least. The write-up claims it’s not heavy, overbearing or bitter...however...that’s kinda what one is looking for in a dark beer. Disappointing.

My Bottom Line:
Toasted bread, prunes and earthy hops dwell in a smooth body, constructing a surprisingly agreeable Dunkel-like lager.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam settles atop the mahogany-hued brown.
-Apart from the fruitiness, this is pretty close to being an authentic Dunkel.
-Drinkability is high despite the chewy malts and their sugars.
-The flavor profile is balanced throughout.

12oz bottle from Lowes grocery in Hickory, NC. Dark brown-copper pour, medium beige head. Aroma of bread, caramel, nuts. Tastes of bready grain, background chocolate, earthy, lightly bitter, nutty. Thin but creamy palate is nice. Approachable.

Light and easily downed dark lager that, although very mild on flavor and aroma, shows off a nice roasted maltiness. Short finish.

jbruner (2489) - Athens, Georgia, USA - NOV 17, 2014
Pours a deep brown on tap with minimal tan oily head that leaves light lace. Aroma is roasted malt covered by lager yeast and fruity esters. Taste leans away from the today and mite toward sweet fruity esters and malt. Solid for the style, but unimpressive overall.

Pours very dark cola brown with a decent tan head that shows some legs. Aroma is bready malts and toasted grains. Perhaps a touch of caramel. Taste is quite rich - roasted caramel and toffee malt with a fine balance of noble hops. Dry finish with mild bitterness. Very good variation of the style.

Nice nuttiness in the aroma and flavor. Really more like a light-bodied brown ale than a typical dark lager.

From a bottle. Pours hazy brown with a fizzy off white head. Tastes like roasted malt, light sweetness, light earth. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like toasted malt, dried fruits, light raisin.
