3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 whatalesya (21) - , North Carolina, USA - JUN 1, 2013
Though not a lite beer at all, this brew is an almost refreshing beer that I enjoy in warmer weather. A slightly cloudy straw golden color, 1 finger head that dissipated to a thin layer. The nose was sweet, somewhat earthy, a touch floral. Palate is clean & crisp, hints of lemon and maybe a touch of grapefruit. Trace of hop bitterness. Light body, good carbonation. If you’re fond of strong ales, Imperial stouts, and/or hop bombs (as am I) but want a nice change of pace, this is a good one to try.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Westmeister (990) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAY 21, 2013
Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow with white head and just a wee bit of lacing. Aroma is slight doughy, grainy, slight citrus of the lemon variety. Taste has the same with hints of fruitness and a decent bit of bitterness and some minerals. Just ok. Session or not, I still prefer a bit more flavor and depth to my brew.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 auerbrau (2989) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - MAY 19, 2013
12oz Bottle. Thanks for sharing, Rob. Wonderful winey nose, with white wine alcohols and a bit of grain. Flavors are rich and clean, with light german ale fruitiness, a good tooth of malt, and nice body. Very traditionally brewed and in very good shape. I’m impressed. This isn’t just a kolsch to be a boring blonde ale, it’s a kolsch to be a great representation of the style tradition. Wish I could get this regularly.

Grainy, slightly bacony aroma. Good label and cap; clear, not much head. Good, crisp, twiggy, low bittering. Light body, not over-carboed. Thanks, LuckyDog.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 chinchill (660) - South Carolina, USA - APR 28, 2013
A: Light yellow gold, clear but with a slight haze. White short head had moderate retention.
S: Grassy and floral grains with a hints of lemon, biscuits and hay. More hops evident than expected.
T: Lightly flavored; really a ’light’ beer but with a notable bit of lasting hop presence and mild bitterness on the back end. Starts lightly sweet and ends lightly bitter.
M: Light and crisp. Moderate+ carbonation. Slightly dry finish.
O: This relatively hoppy Kolsch is very good for style, but even so still doesn’t make a good sipper. Best used to quench a thirst or accompany a mild flavored meal.
