Soft and hazy pour, stare gold with one or two fingers of white head. Nose is fine, light apple skin notes and meaty smoke. Light malt sweetness. Moderate bitterness and medium light body. Somewhat nondescript flavor. Neatly smoke and a light grass note.

On tap at Watts Grocery, Durham. Interesting to try this version of (presumably) a more straight-up Bamberg style lager after the dark smoked beer from a year or two back. Cloudy brownish-orange pour with a medium head. Nose of understated smoke, slight notes of yeast, and a passably well realized lager. Not quite enough personality to satisfy in the base, with just a smidge of noble hops to give it some backbone and stand out against the blurry malts. Smoke is fairly faint in the taste too. Nice try, and future batches could be up to the level of Smoky Heart.

Draught at the Saucer. Pours a clear dark golden color with a rather small head on it. I find the nose to be super light - I can get some faint whiffs of what you’d expect from a pale lager (which is the base style), but not even enough of that to be sure. Taste has the smokiness really coming through with a bit of the sweetness from the pale lager base. Actually pretty drinkable.
