This is a share beer. Maybe around campfire because it reminds me of moonshine. Granted light moonshine but more moonshine than beer. Definite after dinner snifter beer but ill manage the bottle by myself.

Belgian dubbel with amped up fruit notes, mainly as you guessed it raisin and fig and dark fruits. The apple brandy adds some booze and oak.

I hate grading beers down on aroma, mostly becuase I’m pretty sure its my nose letting me down not the beer. I can smell dark fruits and some belgiany-ness. Also vanilla sweetness on the nose. Appearance was fantastic- draft pour to a tulip. Taste is heavy on vanilla from the oak barels. I was expecting more contribution from the fruit, but they probably just complement the dubbel. My palate isn’t refined enough to notice them specifically. On my palate all the flavors were pretty well balanced, maybe a touch hot with alcohol, and the bright carbonation keeps it from being super creamy. Breaks up the wood notes. Overall fantastic. Can’t wait to open the bottles I have at home with friends.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Served in a nonic from a 750 ML bottle; winter 2013 bottling date.
A - Poured with a good off-white head over a lightly hazy, dark brown liquid.
Aroma: very fruity, with figs and brandy dominating. Also some hints of apples, raisins, toffee and vanilla. An enticing aroma.
T - Taste is similar, but with a more obvious contribution from the raisins and from the brandy barrel aging, and with some hints of dates. Perhaps a tad too sweet, but in character with other aspects of the flavor.
Mouthfeel: 9% ABV is very well hidden in this very smooth beer. Near perfect medium-light carbonation. Medium-full body. Excellent!
O - A unique and very flavorful beer that is likely to benefit from some aging even though this fresh bottle was already remarkably smooth and had nicely blended flavors. I will try to find a bottle to age.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2013 22 oz bottle. This is an amazing experience. Your taste buds are assualted from all areas. This is one of the most unique and complex beers I have consumed. The beer was purchased while visiting the taproom in Kinston. The beer was tasted with my son who said it was like a liquid fruit cake. The beer poured a light cloudy brown with a small head that quickly disappeared. The aroma was of figs and raisins with a solid apple brandy notes. The raisins are tasted from beginning to the end. The carbonation is soft with a medium body. The finish was full of fruit and vanilla with just a hint of apple. The aftertaste was enjoyed long after the beer was consumed.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle that my brother brought back from Charlotte, thanks Jeff! 2013 Vintage. Pours a cloudy, deeper red-orange colored body with a thin, creamy and frothy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is really enjoyable. Lots of fresh figs and raisins with a solid apple brandy note giving off just a slight tartness. Sturdy caramels with some breadiness, more dark fruits, vanilla, and oak. Flavor is similar. Malt forward with a good amount of sweet caramels and lots of vanilla. Nice raisin dark fruits with some fresh figs and a slight breadiness to the malts. Oak and a slight apple brandy note come out more towards the end with plenty of vanilla before this finishes very smooth with a bit of a residual sweetness before slowly drying. Lengthy aftertaste with lots of vanilla and caramel following a medium body and a flatter feeling, soft, light carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid beer. I liked the aroma a bit more since the apple brandy was more prevalent, but the flavor was still enjoyable. A touch sweet with lots of vanilla, but the dark fruits and fresh figs played off everything nicely. Good one.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark brown color with a smallish head. Nose smells a lot like alcohol and the aging process. Taste is a tad bit sweet, but with some woodiness to it. Don’t taste the fruits in there.
