4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 mikedR (360) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - FEB 12, 2013
Could be my favorite black IPA. Almost stout like in consistency and base flavor. But then, the bitterness, the hoppiness! Very good stuff. Not the prototypical black IPA -- forges its own category.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 savnac (2056) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Draft @ Ohso. Dark brown with a small light tan head. Aroma of citrus, coffee, pine and chocolate. Flavor is bitter roast and hops with some chocolate and caramel malt, very light alcohol warming. Medium body with a long, bitter finish. Pretty nice Black IPA, really bitter but balanced out by the malt and alcohol.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 phaleslu (4431) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 21, 2012
Draft at the brewery. Labeled "Lost Highway Black IPA." Pours a deep brown with a small beige head. Aroma of toast, pecan, pine, orange, brown sugar, and earth. Flavor of floral, earthy hops, resin, toast, tea, and nuts. Medium-bodied, with moderate carbonation and a toasty, bitter mouthfeel. Different take on the style but it works.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 DesertDevil (194) - Arizona, USA - OCT 29, 2012
Poured from a growler. Deep brownish-black color. Aroma of anise and peppery roasted malt. Dry roasty start followed by a nice, sweet chocolate note with a hint of peppercorn. Quite dry on the palate, but it fits the style. It could use a bit more hop bite considering it’s a black IPA, but it’s still an enjoyable brew.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 heyprobrewing (31) - Arizona, USA - AUG 23, 2012
Delicious. Tap at Pine Canyon. Pitch black with roast and hop aroma. Palate is full bodied but not overly roasted or sweet. Well balanced with a ton of piney hops to go with the body. Well done

a+f= the black ipa i don’t care for.... a mix of ash, roast, grapefruit, citrus and charred cream.
medium bodied with soft carbonation but spiciness helps it out. 6/4/6/3/14

One of the better double IPA’s that northern AZ has to offer. Complex flavor with a smooth, crisp hop finish.

Sampled at the AZ Strong Beer Fest. Dark mahogany pour with a small khaki head. Mild level of hops with subtle grapefruit, candied orange, and caramel. Brown sugar and toasted nuts as well. Not the hoppiest of black IPA’s but I have to say that the beer was tasty. Medium mouthfeel with ample carbonation.
