Pours inky brown with a cappuccino head. Nose is chocolate, raisins, vanilla, oak char. Sweet and bitter in balance. Alcohol hidden. There is a lingering char finish. Yum.

Bottle: Purple-black with a tan ring. Bourbon, dark fruit, chocolate aroma. Heavy, sweet, dark chocolate/brandy flavor. Black cherry, raisin, Really thick, woody.... Initially great, but then it just starts to taste like fudge and booze.....

Bottle. Bourbon, sherry, raisin, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Dark brown with minimal head. Sweet alcohol (bourbon and brandy dominate), wood, light chocolate malt, and moderately bitter herbal alcohol flavor. Sharp acidic rum finish. The liquors blend well but then overwhelm the base beer. Interesting but too much.

12 oz bottle. Dark brown with tan froth. Nose is fudge, wood, whiskey, caramel and fig. Medium body with a tang. Taste is brandy, raisin, chocolate, sherry, wood and rum. A bit sharp with all the booze but still nicely melded.

Pitch black, finger of dark mocha head. Smells of raisin, Concorde grape, chocolate malt, caramel malt, barrel, bourbon, sweetened coffee. Taste is much like a chocolate covered raisin, fudge, vanilla, bourbon, a slight roasted hop. Very chocolatey overall, with a nice barrel character. Impressed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had on tap at the Brown Derby in Springfield, MO. They were all out in bottles and this was the last pint they had on tap. Sorry to those who came after me. Pours a dark brown with a thick mocha head. Aroma is coffee and chocolate with some tartness. Flavor follows with noticeable raisins or dark fruit with tartness. Lots of cocoa also. Nice beer. Not up to the hype, but still a very good beer.

Opaque black in color with a foamy two fingers of khaki head that retains very well and leaves behind thick lacing. The first things I get in the aroma are chocolate and raisin followed by a boozy brandy and bourbon note. Also get lighter notes of coffe and sweet tobacco as well as a faint savoriness. The taste is somewhat sweet at first with milk chocolate, raisins, plums and even some mild cherry. The whiskey barrel shows up mid palate with some wood character along with brandy and bourbon flavors, but no real booziness. Aftertaste has some mild roastiness that pleasantly hints at being burnt but never crosses that line. Also some dark coffee and leather. Finishes with some mild roasty bitterness and acidity along with mild alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel is semi slick with a body that is on the lighter side of medium and a medium/high carbonation. Enjoyable barrel aged RIS that distinguished itself and impressed me as an amalgamation of an imported version of the classic style and the numerous barrel aged American versions. Only detractor was that the body was a little light and carbonation a tad high.

On tap. Pours black with slight tan head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate, cherry, vanilla and what I think is sherry or brandy. Taste is complex with all the elements of the aroma plus raisin, coffee, a little roasted malt and a slight sourness at the end. A semi-full, slick mouthfeel. Dangerously drinkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle thanks to Will. Pours a dark brown with beige head that lasts. The aroma is strong chocolate, roast, cocoa. Medium mouth with nice chocolate, roasted malt, sugary finish. Very nice.

This poured a darker brown with a beige head. Aroma was of.chocolate, wine, and dark fruit. Flavor similar, big dark fruit character, a bit hollow, and barrel not there much.
