A hazy golden yellow color with two fingers of head and decent lacing. Aroma is predominately wheat and malt with orange zest. Taste is also wheat forward with a slight tartness and sweetness followed by citrus. Mouthfeel is light/medium with medium carbonation and finishes semi dry. More American wheat than witbier but is drinkable and has a decent flavor profile.

The aroma smells like floral hops, grapefruit, and a hint dry wheat, and the appearance is a hazy straw color with a large pillowy head that stays around for a little bit. The taste is mildly bitter, mildly sweet, and a touch sour; also the mouthfeel combines a medium body, soft carbonation, slick texture, and a slightly bitter finish.

Bottle @ home, courtesy of jcnielsen. Thanks Justin! Not to be too picky, but the label on the bottle was crooked and it seemed to be poured awfully high. Anyhow, it pours a hazy orange appearance with a somewhat small, off-white head. Kind of chewy malty, lightly spicy, a bit zesty, lemon citrusy aroma. Light cardboard, lemon/grapefruit citrusy, dull bready flavor that’s well carbonated. Really not a whole lot going on. Bleh.

It’s funny that a beer made with some grapefruit zest tastes less grapefruity than IPAs with certain citrus-y hops. Still, I liked the bit of grapefruit bitterness. Sandy is crisp, very carbonated, and easy to drink. But I didn’t know it was supposed to be a belgian white! The bitterness overwhelms the subtle floral and coriander flavors I usually associate with a Belgian white. Honestly, I’d rather have either a tradition BW or IPA, but Sandy isn’t a bad beer. Good try.

Bottle. Pours a smoky golden with a small puffy white head. Dual aroma of musty witbier and fresh hops. Flavor is slightly sour, moderately bitter. Very dry. Finish is long and bitter. I like the idea of a hoppy witbier, but I think there is a reason it’s not a style to its own. The hops are just unbalanced. The body and mouthfeel are thin and refreshing, but the bitterness is just a little too much for the backbone of the beer. And also the funky aromas I like so much about belgian beers are also a little overwhelmed. I like this one more and more as I drink it, but overall it’s just a little unbalanced. Well made, though. No off flavors. A fine summer beer.

Tastes of paper, wheat, grass, dirt with a hint of citrus fruit. Light yellow with little head and cloudy. Gift from Nick.

Very zesty, smoothly bitter, hazy gold ale with plenty of citrus and floral hop aroma and flavor. Easy to drink, refreshing, and with a useful abv. I want to forcefully Corleone-style mouth-kiss them for leaving out the coriander. Similar to others Mother’s beers it strikes as a touch overcarbonated, but I can deal with that.
