3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with a medium khaki head. Good lacing, head sticking to the glass. Aroma is a milder coffee smell with roasted malt and some vanilla. Taste is coffee bean with a slight, pleasant bitterness that I scrubbed way almost immediately by the carbonation. Some chocolate in there also. Mouthfeel is a little thin for a stout. Very pleasant and could easily see myself drinking a glass of this instead of a cup of coffee after dinner.

This is all coffee. If you love coffee in your beer, as I do, then this is a beer for you. Thanks to Pete for bringing me some beers over the holidays. 6% abv.
It is a stout, not one with a heavy body, and then all coffee: from aroma, to flavor, to finish. Not sweet and not bitter or acidic. Drinks like a fresh pot of (really good gourmet) coffee smells. A winter winner.

This beer smells like a fresh pot of strong coffee is a-brewiní. Very nice black color with a frothy, tan head. When the beer hits your lips, it makes you wonder exactly how they got such a strong, non-bitter flavor out of the coffee, for it is a simply delicious fusion of coffee and stout. It is lightly bitter, but it isnít a heavily bitter coffee stout, which is more common than it should be. It has a surprisingly thinner body than you would expect from both the flavor and taste, but it isnít a bad thing. It runs across the tongue slickly with a soft carbonation. It has a long finish with the coffee sticking around on your tongue quite nicely.

Pours black. Aroma is probably the most interesting of any coffee stout I can recall. I guess I would say this has the aroma of fresh ground coffee, more so than brewed coffee (I feel like most coffee stouts smell more like brewed coffee than fresh ground coffee beans). The stout style strikes me as a dry stout , but maybe it has lactose in it because the flavor of the coffee in the stout reminds me of coffee with creamer in it (I drink coffee black, and this doesnít taste like that). I will say that this is a coffee stout for people who donít drink stouts and who probably donít drink coffee....because itís very light bodied, easy to drink, and has a fantastic aroma without the bitter/roasty notes that an actual glass of coffee provides (for those who donít care for that).

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2012 Motherís Winter Grind Coffee Stout - Pours near-black with average-to-weak head and lacing. Aroma - wow! Smells like freshly brewed gourmet coffee. I sniffed this over and over before sampling. Even my mom liked the aroma of this one, and she hates nearly anything I give her beer-wise! Flavor - almost lives up to the aroma. Itís like cold coffee beer! Very tasty. Could argue that itís one-dimensional - in fact, it is, in all honesty - but I just canít hate too much on coffee beer. Iím biased toward stouts that are more coffee-flavored than chocolatey, and this is a great example. Iím on a real stout roll lately, but itís probably a matter of time before I run into some duds.

Bottle- Pours a black color with a small tan head that fades to some lacing. Fresh aroma of coffee, dark chocolate with some roasted malt thrown in. Taste follows the aroma with coffee, roasted malt with bittersweet chocolate. Mild bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body, smooth and creamy, nicely balanced. Easy drinker. good for a few. A quality beer from a small regional brewer.
