Commercial Description:
An intricately malty and satisfying brew that is sure to please the ale lover in all of us.

Mildly nutty with soft anise and caramelised bread notes. Soft bakers cocoa and nuts on the palate with a very soft bitterness. Nice clean and dry finish. Almost a nice Mild ale.

Dark brown colour. The aroma is a bit nutty with a hint of smoke. The flavour is also smokey with an interesting dark malt character...toffeeish (special B maybe?) accents. Light body. Really more of a dark mild than a brown ale, and a delicious one at that.

Head is huge. Flavor is pretty thin. Malty, nutty with a sour/musty finish that reminds me of a homebrew.

In person, this ale does not jibe well with the commercial description. More than anything, this beer screams "watery!" Too dry and way overhopped for what should be a fairly malty style. No hint of sweetness, caramel or nuttiness; things that I tend to look for in a Brown. A liberal dose of yeasty funk finishes this up. Bad batch, perhaps?
