COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mountain Goat’s India Pale Ale is Australia’s first 100% certified organic beer. We use organically grown and malted German pilsener and light munich malts to give a golden, full bodied feel and then hop it with New Zealand Pacific Gem hops.

It all leads to a full-bodied, well-hopped brew in a style almost lost to the ages. It’s Mountain Goat’s fourth beer release and we’re brewing it as a seasonal beer just through the warmer months. 5%

2010 description:
Another old favourite, the IPA, has emerged from hibernation and is hoppier than ever. We brewed it with ale, wheat and crystal malts and then dry-hopped the bejesus out of it with Australian bred and grown Galaxy pellets. It’s got tropical and fruity hop characters on the nose and toasty, maltiness on the palate.5.5%

Pale gold, average head. Fruity, bready aromas. Sweet hoppy palate, slightly bitter finish. I liked this, but it doesn’t strike me as an IPA style. Interesting.

Bottle: Clear yellow-gold with a thin fading head. Pale, slightly toasted malts with some buttery straw aromas. Papaya and woody hops as it opens, with some fruity (apricot) yeast notes. Prominent sweet malt and resiny, woody hops with mild fruity flavours in the end. Slightly spicy. Nice enough but really lacking any character, and I felt like this was unfinished, conceptually.

Very cloudy beer with suspended yeasty chunks. Pale yellow muddy colour with a thin white head. Fruity, juicy aroma, mango, papaya, and juicy fruit gum. Also an unusual concord grape aroma. A bit of wheay spice and honey flavour. The flavour is less impressive than the aroma, honey malt and light fruitiness. Yeast adds a touch of spice and dustiness. Light fruity finish.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2005 Bottled. Hazy pale yellow. Papaya aroma. Sweet and juicy with clean, rounded mouthfeel and medium body. The malt profile is simple, and the hop rate surprisingly low, but still it manages to be pretty good.

Sweet hop malt aroma. Cloudy yellow colour with no head. Sweet malt floral flavour with a very long taste. Fizzy palate.

Pours a pale yellow colour with a solid white head. Weak hop aroma doesn’t bode well and taste isn’t much of an improvement. Weak beer with only really mild hop flavour, not great.

Not sure how this is labeled an IPA as it’s a completely different type of beast. Pours a very cloudy, brackish, just-turned-on-the-faucet-for-the-first-time-in-mo light brown. The flavor is much closer to an wheat beer. Huh?!?

Very pale gold body with a compact lasting white head. Aroma of citrus hops and wet newspaper. Taste was pleasant, light hop bitterness, a little watery and thin in body but the hops do come through just not enough for my liking.

Cloudy light gold; more wheat beer than IPA. Fruity, floral nose, yeasty? Pretty tasty, more sweetish floral notes. Not particularly malty. Finishes ’correct’ with some hoppy traits and some bitterness but not quite the real deal. Certainly more varietal than from last year’s batch.
