COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rare Breed #4 is out and about. Now. It’s a Rye IPA, kinda same same but different to our regular IPA, but we use 20% malted rye in the grist in addition to malted barley. Rye gives a rich nuttiness to the mouthfeel that complements the big hit of galaxy and cascade hops that follows. On the nose it’s all fruity hops – tropical and zingy. The palate is full, bitter and rich – the rye helping out with this. It clocks in at 6.1%abv, 60BUs… Available at McCoppins, Slow Beer, Blackhearts & Sparrows and other discerning beery stores. Hope you like it!

Pleasant amber/copper colour with a soapy head. A mild aroma is indicative of the subtle, yet complex flavour that exhibits hints of spicy rye and resin. Another excellent beer by Mountain Goat

Scopey (7054) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 4, 2014
Big dirrrrty bomber shared at Taps beer bar, KL. It pours cloudy deep red-amber with a small yellow-white head. The nose is earthy, pine needles, citrus peel, sherbet, light caramel and toast. The taste is bitter, pine needles, resin, earth, breadth, orange muffin and light alcohol with a dry, citric finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Punchy and tasty, yet very drinkable.

Darkish gold pour with a big white head. Caramel, peachy, citrus in the aroma. Taste is orange, caramel, toasty, peach. Not bad at all

A bit boring. Pours a very inviting warm amber. Smells yeasty with a nice Cascade hop smell and some malt. Not much taste to it, though the rye does come through. Drinkable and definitely not unpleasant but the tepid flavour is probably the most disappointing part of this beer.

From a 640ml bottle on 29/12/2013. Pours an opaque dark golden with a variable head. Has a mild hoppy aroma with some caramel in the mix. The flavour features lots of caramel and toffee malt. The hops are fruity and relatively firm but relatively modest by IPA standards. The dry rye is evident at the finish. Has a medium body and medium carbonation. Solid if not spectacular.

Toasty malt which must be the rye - balanced with a decent fruity hop hit - could do with bigger hop load to counter the malt but overall very pleasant - couldn’t drink a lot of it cos it’s quite heavy.

640ml bottle.
Pours a clear amber with a white frothy head.
Nose is fresh peaches, pineapple and oranges, with a bit of caramel and some rye notes.
Flavour is lots of fruity orange and grapefruity hop flavours, some stone fruits, some caramel, some bready rye notes, and a bitter, grapefruit peel finish.
Body is medium and carbonation seems slightly towards the low end.
Overall a pretty bold IPA, with interesting rye notes. Doesn’t blow me away, but it’s definitely solid and tasty.

Looks.. Deep rich amber, lge head. Smells..somewhat in the tropical fruit direction, though a nutty, malty, rye and slight spice thing seems to just be more dominant. Tastes..pretty even balance on the fruit and spicey, rye, malty bits, healthy bitterness suits well too. Goodbreed.

Always look forward to a rare breed and this one is no exception bought from Dan Murphy’s. It poured a copper colour with a nice white head smelt like a rather middle of the road IPA which is really what it is. Slightly sweet to taste with restrained bitterness. It’s sesionable and quiet pleasant but it possibly doesn,t stand out to me as much as perhaps some of the other rare goats have in the past. Still not a bad drop though.
