3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Glad to have the opportunity to try this one but it didn’t live up my expectations. Perhaps I don’t care for rye beers? The malts were pronounced and it was not nearly as hop forward I’d like. Very drinkable but not all that flavourable. I’d happily drink it again but it wouldn’t be my first choice.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
fantastic beer in some respects - the malt flavour is excellent and there is a great balance here between oily and spicy rye, toffee and bitterness. the element i dont like (and most aus breweries seem to love) is the galaxy hops. dirty heavy overripe tropical fruit and an odd tomato flavour that competes with the malt in midpalate rather than expanding it out into the finish. potential here but the syrup and fruit win over the malt and bitterness.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
640ml bottle. Pours cloudy orange amber with rocky off white cream head. Excellent lace. Nice hoppy aroma, galaxy hops shining through backed by the genuine cascade citrus grapefruit notes - excellent caramel sweetness backing the hops also with a touch of spice from the rye. Generous hop flavour, rye character comes through, albeit not too spicy as the malty caramel comes through - its altogether blending, not over the top, but satisfying nonetheless. Light-Medium body, medium bitterness acecentuated by the rye. Spice and hop flavour lingering well through the lightly sweet finish.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
640ml bottle. Pours a hazy dark amber, with a large off-white head, which lasts fairly well, leaving decent lace. Pine hops and strong rye bread make for a fairly simple, but very pleasant aroma. There are strong initial hops, with pine and powerful citrus notes, especially lemon. These lead into a firm backbone of smooth, dark rye, which lends a bit of support to the hops. A touch of burnt toffee comes in towards the finish, which is quite smooth although not especially long-lasting. This is a quite decent attempt at a style I have not seen from an Australian craft brewer before. It lacks the flair of some of the US examples, but is still quite an enjoyable beer.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark amber with a large, lasting head.
Nose is pretyt fruity, with lots of peach, passion fruit and apricot. Underneath is spicy hints along with big caramel presence and toffee.
Similar fruity flavours, but also showing a lot of malt, combining to create orange marmalade characters. Nice spicy, bready backing from the rye.
Could use more carbonation.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: APR 26, 2012 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours bright amber with a small, fluffy white head. Head retention is pretty solid and leaves some spotty lacing. Nose is subtle spice, green hops and tropical/citric fruits. Sweet caramel backs the taste which is oozing with over ripe fruits - tangerine, peach, apricot. Lots of zest. Subtle, yet lingering bitterness with soft and prickly carbonation. Nice work, very good beer which showcases the rye very well

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Another very good seasonal from MG. They really have the base IPA for these beers down pat and the rye malt provides, at least to my palate, a grainy, barnyard overlay that reminds me a touch of daggy old Eastern European pilsners. Hoppy yes, aggressive no. Aniseed infused hops to finish. Good value at $10 too. A touch under-carbonated?

Bottle from Parkhill cellars. Delicious IPA, very nicely hopped. Aromas of grain, caramel, cherries, grass, and liquorice. Taste is sweet and bitter, with long length. Palate is velvety, almost creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Amber, with a frothy head.
