COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Surefoot Stout is back for 2010 and is a robust, malt-driven ale combining four Australian and imported malts plus flaked barley for a rich mouthfeel. This is a sweet stout, not the traditional dry, Irish stout we all know. We use English East Kent Goldings hops to balance the burnt roasty malt characters. Overall, it’s chocolately, espresso – but rich and full, 5% alc/vol. If you’re lucky, you may even catch Stout in Randy with coffee beans – beer and coffee – what’s not to love?

Very Sheafish. Quite malty but, despite what others have said below, with burnt rather than chocolate/coffee/vegemite flavours -- which I prefer in stouts... A little soft on ABV as well.

A good creamy stout. I’d be happy to get it again and moat likely will. Mountain Goat have done a great job.

Draught at Bitter Suite, New Farm, Brisbane. Poured a semi-translucent mahogany with a red tint. The very thin beige head laced poorly. Aroma subtly of roasted grain and a hint of caramel. Taste of sweet caramel and roasted grain with slight bitterness. Light to medium body - a bit light for a stout. Smooth with a slightly bitter finish. Quite nice.

Draught @ CBC 2013. Pours clear very dark red with a lasting and creamy tan huge head. Aroma is dark berries, dark sugar, grass, citrus, roasted malt and chocolate and a little tart fruit. Taste is light+ sweet, light bitter and acidic. Body is light+, texture is creamy, and carbonation is lively. Finishes almost balanced, but with some bitterness. Quite refreshing.

HTH with aro noir at the albion: average stout, far too sweat, limited roast, and a little unbalanced.

Opaque black beer, decent sized tan head. Pleasant nose - dark malts and a little Port! Palate is light and has mild fine carbonation. Mild dark malt, but paradoxically rich. A whisper of coffee and trace amount of hops in the dry finish. Not bad.

(64 cl bottle from Toft Vin; BBD: January 30th 2013; Bar code: 9 328829 000256) Quite surprised to be the first Dane rating this. Pours black with rich, tan head. Decent retention and good lacing. Aroma is subtle roasted malt with notes of chocolate, cigar leaves and a hint of chalk. Oily texture, relatively light body, soft carbonation and a roasted, quite ascorbic finish. Taste is moderately sweet with the roastedness coming through more in an acidic finish than as a bitterness. Straightforward and approachable campfire stout well suited for the outback, I imagine. Girlfriend says: "It’s a bit sour and not that full."

[640ml bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk] Brown pour, with a thin white head. I got lots of cherry out of the aroma, together with traces of chocolate and sweet malt. Fruity on the palate, which is highly carbonated. Plenty of coffee and chocolate come out on the taste, which leads into a roasty, slightly tart finish. The body may be a little thin, but it’s alright and would make a great session stout. Love the label, too [03122011]

Bottle. Poured clear dark redish brown with a big beige head. Aroma of burnt toffee / caramel. Medium body but very fizzy. In fact the fizziness ruined the beer. It poured OK, it didn’t look crazily bubbly but each sip turned to a mouthfull of foam making it hard to taste - something wrong here definitely. The flavour was a fairly laid back stout with burnt / dark caramel and some bitterness in the finish. Overall I was disappointed as I expected more of this brewery. The beer was spoilt by the carbonation, but even then it was a fairly modest stout, perhaps redeemed by some interesting bitterness in the finish.
