Surefoot Stout is back for 2010 and is a robust, malt-driven ale combining four Australian and imported malts plus flaked barley for a rich mouthfeel. This is a sweet stout, not the traditional dry, Irish stout we all know. We use English East Kent Goldings hops to balance the burnt roasty malt characters. Overall, it’s chocolately, espresso – but rich and full, 5% alc/vol. If you’re lucky, you may even catch Stout in Randy with coffee beans – beer and coffee – what’s not to love?

A good creamy stout. I’d be happy to get it again and moat likely will. Mountain Goat have done a great job.

375ml can into pint glass. Sweet acidic nose. Dark ruby red beer with foamy tan head. Fizzy mouthfeel, medium body. Finish is chocolate and coffee, quite dry. Nice if unexceptional stout.

Completely against the general consensus, I love this stout. Dark chocolate is big on the nose, roast peanuts, and vanilla as well. Awesome ruby hue black body with a sandy white head. A little thin but so smooth. A very easy going full flavoured stout, great balance.

Unconvincing - thin body - low on flavour - innocuous but insipid - expected better.

Pours a black colour with a tan head of medium density. The aroma is of hops, resin and slightly of oatmeal. The flavour is mild and of oatmeal and grass. There is little bitterness and the flavour is short-lasting on the palate. Overall, a bit disappointing and a bit light-on for a stout.

Pours black with an off white head. Aroma is malt, chocolate, licorice and coffee. Taste is roasty leading to little thin finish. Decent

375ml tinnie with BB of 7/5/16. Almost complete black (slight red-brown hue) with a medium sized creamy tan head. Aroma is roasty dark chocolate malts, dark fruits, and faint coffeebeans. Flavour is fullish sweetness with a mild dryness to the finish. Palate is medium bodied and malty. Quite sweet for a stout but not too sickly and quite easy to drink.

From a 375ml can on 9/7/2015 (ABV listed as 5%, no reference to Rare Breed). Pours dark brown with a medium head. Has a mild nose of coffee and chocolate. In the mouth, there’s light roasted malt, cocoa, chocolate, coffee and vanilla, with a moderate bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A decent sweetish stout.

Should no longer be surprised by beer in can. Great aroma. Burnt coffee. Bit of smoke in taste before coffee and chocolate kicks in. This isn't an in your face stout. For the middle of the road travellers. 5.0%. 385ml. 1.5std drks ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From 330 ml can. Pours a fairly solid black with some reddish highlights and a small cream coloured head. Aromas of chocolate, raisins, plums and a little coffee. Taste starts off with some dark fruit before a roasted coffee bitterness in the mid-palate overlaid by a fresh liquorice note. Smooth chocolate and more liquorice at the end. Fairly light bodied for the style but very easy drinking.

New cans. A little coffee and chocolate but way too thin and watery with no length. A little disappointed in this but maybe we don’t understand it’s role. Good choice for entry level stout. Perhaps produced for more of a session beer.
