650ml bottle. Still trying to get my head around a beer that looks like a stout but smells and tatses like an IPA. Deep dense black colour with a light tan head. Spicy fruit aromas are pleasing as is the flavour. Full mouthfeel with a long lingering finsih.

Thanks to Alex for this... Dark brown body, really light on the fringes, light tan head, god retention, creamy... Light nose, but nice, a bit of soap with roast, a bit chocolate... The taste is pretty nice, one of the better black ipas I’ve had, pretty soapy overall but a nice chocolate roast balance this out

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2014 Bottle from Mane Liquor. Glad to have got this one. This one has a very big hoppy aroma - Pine and slight coffee on the nose. Flavour is great. Pine, hop resin, coffee, tropical fruits. Lingers for a long time. Only down fall is a slightly thin palate. Overall though, a fantastic beer

Poured a decent tan head on a black body. Hops on the aroma though not as much in the taste, choclate and coffee notes in there as well, delightful to drink.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: APR 2, 2011 Bottle. Pours brown, looks black in the glass with red-brown edges, modest beige head. Aroma is just hops - grapefruit, pine, nectarines, a little window-cleaner. Light-bodied and quite bubbly. Taste is of those hop aromatics, a little coffee and chocolate, even less roasted malt. Finishes bitter with citrus and pine. Very similar to others I’ve liked in this style: there’s no sense that it’s a hoppy porter, just a US IPA with a different root malt note. [3.8] Delightful yes, but a bagatelle.

Pours ruby tinted dark brown with a small, lasting head.
Nose shows masses of hops: resinous, earthy, pinapple. Underneath is chocolate and caramel malt. Luscious!
First up in the flavours is chocolate and coffee followed by a huge resinous hoppy hit. Tastes like how freshly picked hops smell! Massively long finish with a strong, bold hoppy bitterness.
Carbonation could be a bit higher honestly.

The nose is very hop forward. lots of pineapple and citrus. It is very smooth on first drop, with a non protruding malt body of chocolate washed away swiftly by the prevailing bitterness. First time to try Galaxy where the passion fruit wasn’t overwhelming. This goes to show what Aussie brewers can achieve minus the constraints they and the beer history of Australia places on them. Very much an IPA with a solid though slightly overwhelmed dark malt body. Top notch.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: JUL 6, 2012 On tap at Atticus Finch. Great beer, a signature black IPA. Aromas is floral, liquorice, with notes of caramel and chocolate milk. Taste is slightly sweet, but mostly bitter and dry, with very long length. Palate is smooth and velvety, almost creamy, with a medium-to-full body. Dark brown, with a thin head.

Pretty flash. I haven’t drunk too many of the style but have been lucky enough to try Thornbridge’s and this is at least on par. Clearly has very strong links with the IPA (think medium weight new world hop resin) but the overlay of coffee and roast is very well integrated. Really good.
