Coal Black and creamy smooth, this beer holds a light tan head and is surprisingly light in body - so it wonít fill you up. Thomas, WVís heritage was based on the hard-working Italian coal miners who worked the mines from the 1890s-1940s. The tap handle is the silhouette of a local coal minerís daughter.

Many thanks to Travlr for another state and another rate. Minerís Daughter is one those state ratings that gives you the satisfaction of letting you think youíre truly drinking something that represents the region from which it came. Coal mines - doesnít get much more West Virginian than that. The label art seems appropriately old-timey. Minerís Daughter pours black as soot. Aroma is redolent of cream, oatmeal, and roasted malt. Flavor has bittersweet chocolate, coffee, and toasted sugar. Thereís also a mineral characteristic I canít quite place. (I joked with HuskerTan that it was fitting to have mineral elements in a beer inspired by miners.) Overall, smooth and very drinkable.

(Thanks, Gene! "Travlr") Bottle. A- Roasty, subtle dry bitter cocoa, iron. A- Black color, black liquid, beige head. T- Subtle coffee, roasty, bitter cocoa, subtle sherry. P- Medium body, creamy texture, average carbonation, dry finish. O- This one had a bit of a sherry/dark fruit taste that was a nice addition. The aroma alone was kind of dull. Very creamy smooth body too. The oatmeal did wonders for it.

Bottle split @ BVeryís with the MN Crew. Scored somewhere in Charleston, WV. Deep brown pour with a small head. Sort of knackered, tired aroma. Some cardboard, soft coffee and a bit of chocolate. Hasnít aged gracefully. Flavor is similar. Thin and a somewhat bitter. Stale coffee and water strained through spent charred grain. Little else. Lightish body, active carb.

Tap at the source. Poured a dark black with a watery look to it and small off white head. Aroma of wood, smoke. Flavor had wood notes, smokey, a little sweetness, and a dry stout taste. Light for a dark beer, and the texture was creamy, but on the thin side of things. Average carbonation and a dry, slightly bitter finish.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass. This beer pours a brownish black color with a small off-white head. The aroma has a strong wood smell that I am not a fan of. The flavor is slightly bitter with a slight aftertaste. I am not a big fan of this.

Bottle shared by Jack, thanks! Pours black with a near white head that dissipates do the edges. Aroma has and earty/musty dark grains with a bit of chocolate supporting. Flavor has a thin but musty dark grain note with a hint of chocolate.

Bottle shared at tasting. Dark brown pour with almost no head. Standard malts and roasts aroma and flavor. Pretty watery, bland. Not great. My buddy Brian drinks this shit.

Dark brown pour with a slight tan head. Malty nose. Ok taste, malty and boozy.

Pours a flat black body under a small fizzy brown head. The nose is roasty and burnt malt with minimal hoppiness. Itís pretty basic stuff, roasted malt, a bit watery, with a slight malt bitterness and a citrusy kick on the finish. Lighter bodied with low carbonation and a shortish finish. On the whole itís a little boring.

Can pour opaque black with thin tan head. Looks good but then falls apart from there. Nose burnt malt, tobacco, tar, some coffee. Taste some roast and chocolate, then some flavors similar to nose. Minimal roast on the finish. Thin mouth feel for an oatmeal stout.
