COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Coal Black and creamy smooth, this beer holds a light tan head and is surprisingly light in body - so it wont fill you up. Thomas, WVs heritage was based on the hard-working Italian coal miners who worked the mines from the 1890s-1940s. The tap handle is the silhouette of a local coal miners daughter.

Bottle from jackl, thanks! Pours a very dark brown, near black, with a finger of creamy tan head. Good sheets of lacing. Nose is modest, light roast and dark chocolate. Silky mouthful tastes of roast, cocoa, and bittersweet. A little thin on the body. Not bad though.

From growler. Dark brown, nearly black with thin tan head. Flavors of coffee, dark chocolate. Slightly bitter roasty finish. Not to filling even though it felt like a higher ABV beer than it is.

Tap at Mountain State. Brown-black body, stained glass red corners. Thick, steady beige head. Roasty and sweet, a pretty classic, mossy stout. Medium bodied, but a rich sweet feel. Bittersweet chocolate. Nice.

Pours jet black with a small but stubborn head that hangs around and leaves some lace. The aroma is mild, but there is coffee and malt and a little burnt bread. The body is far lighter than many oatmeal stouts, and the flavor is decent to pretty good. Rich coffee notes give way to a bit of hop bitterness in the finish. This is comparable to the Stockyard oatmeal stout at Trader Joes, which is also pretty good.

UPDATED: APR 5, 2014 Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a black color with orange highlights and a huge fluffy beige head that lingered forever and left great lacing. The aroma was dryish with notes of cream, toasty malts and a hint of fruity hops. The flavor was dryish, malty and a bit roasty with notes of cream, wood and faint fruity hops. Medium length dry and roasty finish with a bit of wood. Medium body. Meh.

Bottle from Charleston. Nice dark brown pour with a big brown head and thick lacing. Light aroma of dusty malt and some chocolate. Thin mouthfeel and honestly not much flavor other than a light, lingering coffee bitterness. Okay

Draft at the McHenry brew pub. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy tan bead and decent lacing. Tastes like light coffee bitterness, roasted grains, burnt toast. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like light bitterness, grains, and a hint of creamy chocolate. Not much aroma.
