3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2013 draft at Mountain Sun. $6 for a glass of svetly. welcome to America. hazy golden wheat body with a medium-thick white cap atop, good retention and lacing but not patchy and sea-foam like is ideal. lightly hoppy Saaz dried fruit and spice character, yeasty and sulfuric with a lot of grain coarseness in the aroma. pasty, chalky, yeasty mouthfeel with strongly starchy / husky pale malt. creamed corn and sulfur lingering in the finish. probably should have underwent a stronger filtration to bring down the chalk / yeast pastiness; and I would support some changes to the mashing to smooth out the malt since the coarseness is nearly unpalatable (like chewing on week-old dried up popcorn kernels). I like to see them try, but dang if there isn’t a lot of errors to pile up when you’re 4500 miles away from source ingredients.
